jim beam sponsored the aussie wavesailing titles on the goldy in 96,

at one of the pub nights the rep said to me "when we first introduced cans of jim, cheap cola cordial and co2 to the scene, we have been blown away by how many idiots pay our seriously inflated prices, we are laughing all the way to the bank!"

i think they have a little bit of margin to spare.

the stuff tastes like sugar, syrup and more sugar anyway compared to a nip, three ice cubes and your favorite mixer.

ban the crap completely and fast food while we are at it.

I once had a drink of whisky and coke out of can. It was revolting, almost as bad as Southern Comfort or Bailey's Irish Cream.

Gimmi a beer or a decent wine any day. Even drinking whisky straight tastes better. Raise those taxes Kevin 08. Keep taxing them till they bleed.

Spirits =

Beer =

Spirits + Cola =

Seriously, they spend all those years carefully distilling it in French oak or whatever and you go and drown it in Coca-Cola? I'll never, ever understand.

Paying $20 to have it mixed it for you =

JP
We used to get the Tanduyuy Rum for P100 =$2:50 or was it P40 = $1:00
Can't remember exactly but my aussie relos recon it was as good as Bacardi.
I used to buy the gin @ P100 = $ 4:00, good value + tonic & calamancy juice.
Could have got the local stuff @ P30 less than $1:00 but it tasted like paint stripper
I miss the San Mig stubbies @ .50c ea delivered to the house, warm
Can't imagine how many of them I drank, at least a few!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well they had to do SOMETHING to get you sandgropers off the beach and back to the mines. However it is a bit rich to be clobbered for just making your own biofuel. Its sort of like making laws retrospective or having a pre-emptive invasion. We NEED a bill of rights.

Better still, get a relative (preferably not the poor relative) or a friend if you have one, to buy you some spirits duty free when they go somewhere outside of Australia.

This year my mum bought me a 1 litre of vodka which cost her $10 US off a cruise ship and my dad just returned from Canadia and brought back a 1.14 litre bottle of Canadian whisky for $12 Canadian.

You are correct. It is currently a real cash grab! The law is not due to be passed for another 3 months! But the wholesalers have to apply it now! If the legislation gets defeated the tax will be rerturned to the companies, so long as they have kept the names and details of everyone who has bought a 6 pack in the last 3 months you will get your money back!

However if the manufacturers increase the level of the alcoholic drink component (say the wine base) to above 80% and increase the alcohol content to above 8% the tax is not applicable. So if the law gets passed you can look forward to some more powerful mixers come on to the market!
