You pull up at the carpark overlooking the break. The surf is 'all time'. Your mate who is driving says;
'I think it could be better at thingoes'.
or The car develops a puncture at this point. or You remember your leash is on the board you left at home. or You see an onshore windline approaching from the South West. or There is a sign saying carpark is closed due to resurfacing. etc. etc.
Or you do the long drive north with smicko dolphins is pumping you don the wettie go to get board out of the car and bingo you've put your sons soft lite in instead same board bags mates couldn't stop laughing rule number one always get board is in the before driving 2hrs for a surf
Aseela said.. There is a sign saying carpark is closed due to resurfacing.etc. etc.
I 'borrowed' a similar detour sign from my local council a few years back. It came in super handy for keeping various secluded spots empty for a while longer!
In general pack the car the night before na early session so you dont forget anything and can grab a coffee and a banana, drop the kids off at the pool then hit the road in about 15 min flat from when you roll out of bed..
You will always feel better and have a clearer mind after getting out of the water regardless of what sh** you left on the beach before you paddled in - from misses ditching you to losing your job; even if it is for those few precious hours.

What about if you break your leg in three places during that said surf
2: Its that time of the month for the missy, the kids are playing up, your supposed to mow the lawn and take care of your responsibilities (Im sure weve all been there)
3: your at work
4: You broke your favourite board the day before surfing 1foot slop
5: you go somewhere on a surf trip and the destination is flat and home is all time
6:You wake up at a mates house near the coast with no board/wettie/car after a big night
