Not sure if I am pointing out the obvious or not, but can someone explain why other large predatory type creatures, such as a tiger shark are not protected and no one seems to bat an eyelid if one is caught and strung up as a trophy. Take the guy that was in the newspaper who caught one off a jetty in cockburn recently.

If this is the case why do certain people get so worked up about protecting white sharks? Surely a tiger shark is an Apex pretator as well?

GW are on the endangered list because there is not so many left to sustain breading and the continuation of the species.. Simple as that.

As Doggie said they breed faster, and more effectively. But from my point of view if this is meant for me considering your other thread tittle i would get upset if tigers were targeted for a cull as whites are. In fact I'm against all shark fining, i also support protest against Dolphin killing, Aquariums like sea world and Whaling world wide. I don't like seal hunts and have donated money to help try stop that also but i will say on a personal level i don't like seals, they frighten the crap out of me after one bit a mate once But i still wouldn't support a cull on them.


I also don't want to see the last tree cut down either

It seems to me that when a entire field of marine biologist come up with something. (IE GW shark numbers are at collapse levels) if it doesn't suit our personal situation we all just say its crap. They must be wrong. Will you not even consider that just because attack numbers have increased COULD have nothing to do with proving shark numbers have increased. Most experts have put forward there opinion on why, and yes it cant be proved, 100%, but for the same reason it can not be proved than numbers have also exploded

If we kill of the GW and you were wrong what then

For me its the same as saying we need trees. We need them to survive on this planet but hey lets cut them all down and see what happens then

Its a shame cause it is a serious ****ing issue and misinformation and half truths dont help. It needs to be an intelligent and well put together argument, essentially you're asking our government to kill a protected species. Its a pretty big ask, so the only way it can be done is with proof that it is the best course of action and an intelligent dialogue to outline the points and arguments, do you think the minister bloke Bakesy mentioned would come on here, no way he's on a hiding to nothing a bunch of annonomus people behind a Keyboard armed with half fact and suspicion.

Actually i am a boat dealer. I never said i believe in banning fishing. I personally though do agree with Marine reserves (not the current model put up by our government as they are more about protecting offshore mining rights then fish. Buts that another argument).
I also disagree with wide spread harvesting of our seas by irresponsible commercial fishing operations as well. Also another argument.

So i make a living out of selling boats. Wouldn't i be the one who is to lose the most if fishing was to completely collapse. But i don't argue for preservation for sharks and the ocean for myself. I do it for my children.

As for this being a ridiculous argument i agree. WORLD EXPERTS, BE IT MARINE BIOLISGTS, UNIVERSTRY STUDIES, WHAT EVER YOU WHO EVER YOU WANT TO ASK HAVE PUT GW SHARKS ON THE PROTECTED SPECIES LIST. WHY

But the key board terrorists who want to able to surf safer on the weekends say lets kill them because we know better I can see the stupid side of this argument too.

Reading between the lines of all the scientific jargon the biologists I know use, Endangered means the population is less that it otherwise would be due to human activity
