i tried a set on a borrowed board similar to my own before putting them on my own boards. straight up they felt way more drivey than my fcs, i guess its just what feels right for each individual. Cavitation is not something i think i would notice anyway

Yea you would feel it, and since you have tried FCS glass on ect and it feels better you are not getting it.
The board would feel real loose and have no drive.
Does any other fin makers do fins for futures?

If you are chasing fins that feel like glassed on have you seen the Power Base fins. Fit into FCS, has a flared base like glass on, less flex in the base, and designed to increase downward pressure as the screw tightens. Worth checking out perhaps, I haven't tried them yet, not sure if I would pick the difference on my local Scab's waves. Designed in Oz by Dave Byrne and made here as well.

Have seen them in the shops, they got a good reveiw in ASL board test. They look well made.
I had a thought a few years ago when a shaper that I know well went from glass ons to FCS, he reconed that FCS was looser as the base of glassed fins didnt have the rovings and created a bit of cavitation, hence looser fin, I was thinking like a oring that fits around the base of the fin and shaped like a roving. Didnt get far with it tho.
Different people different strokes as far as this stuff goes but its interesting how different set ups work for people

Hey Doggie, Those Shapers SQ5 fins look filthy, can't wait to see how they go, for sure the quality looks as good as the FCS Performance Core. What was the price compared to a set of FCS Q-PC5 fins? Can't make out the dimensions of your Burton, is it a Fat Bullet?

Na its the Troy brooks round tail quad, its got MK2 on it but its a MK1. They never made the MK2 in these dimentions 6,4 x 19 1/8 x 2 3/8 The fins were $120ish from memory. It seems wide doesnt surf like a wide board, got heaps of drive/speed.
Im 80kgs on average and 6.0 when I get out of bed, sumhow I fell shorter in the arvo, gravity sucks!!

The shapers fins went well, the fronts were bigger then b4 and the rears were smaller, so they ramped up the drive due to larger front fin as well as the rear fin was now smaller tho was a hexalite core style fin and a lot stiffer than the plastic M2s rears that I was using b4, so they shapers rears actually had the same drave but smaller fin so as loose as b4. GOLD!!!!

Well fin positioning is a key, I have not been riding my favourite board for a few weeks all that well and it dawned on me, I slid it back on our trip to Bali. So I reset it back and what a difference,I was thinking wtf is going on with me ,my surfing has gone to the pack, well mac is back

Makes so much difference, did it feel stiff or loose and what was the fin possi?

mate I moved it back about 35mm and since coming home I have surfed like a dog sorry just a saying doggie The thing would not turn. From simple kickouts to smashing the lip,it all felt just wrong and weird.
Surfing in heavy traffic I was loosing waves pre take off because I didn't feel comfortable dodging five guy's. All good

In my imperial 9'1" I run PC5 side fins and a 7" narrow base upright centre fin set with the front edge of the centre fin 1" behind the tips of the sides, this seem to work in all conditions for me, I might move it back about 1/2" in bigger surf.

i like the drive off the top the larger sides give.

My 6'8' I'm curently using normal fcs GAM and the PC GAM in my 6'4" afterburner.
have a set of the old Sunny garcia carbon fins I drag out occassionally but have settled with the GAM's for now
