FFS. People die every phucking day from a multitude of causes. Because a shark kills someone, there is this misplaced and frankly quite insincere outpouring of condolences. A person got eaten by a shark. A person most likely will die in hospital from cancer today, maybe ten people. A baby will be stillborn, an elderly person will pass away in a nursing home and so on and so forth. But gee, those deaths dont warrant a mention on the FRONT PAGE of the newspaper or the 6.00 news.
I hope most people have enough smarts to work out why these things don't make the front page or nightly news.Better hide somewhere safe because the sky is falling.
Death is inevitable, that doesn't make it any easier on anyone when it happens, regardless of HOW it happens.
You enter the ocean, you accept the risk. Not rocket science people.
And Suba, that wasn't even funny, even as an attempt at dark humour.

wow, range of answers here...
Dangers exist in all areas of life, and if you start worrying about one thing (surfing) you might as well worry about the other things (car crash, choking on food, getting run over, etc). But if you do that, then you will either live your life in a continual state of fear, or you will try to stop your kids/partner from doing anything they have ever enjoyed in life. It absolutely sucks when you say goodbye to someone and wonder "what if something happens and they never come back?", so the only thing I can suggest that probably wont make any difference at all is to always remember to tell them you love them. Because if something did happen, those final few moments will matter the most.
(and I have to admit, I found subas pictures farkin funny. I think I will save that to show my friends later)
