I can check about 4 beaches, with numerous breaks in under 5- 10 minutes, drive 10-15 minutes more probably goes to 8 -10, But longer drive usually equals less crowds, if it's good somewhere ill happily drive half hour But usually I just surf in town, so 10 minutes.

For a day trip 2 hrs each way, is about the limit.

Years ago couple of hours no worries each way .

Now 5-10 minutes , allows me to fit in surfing around work / kids these days .

Conditions here today I could be on a plane and into Qld in about 3 hrs - tempting

Where u heading to ? You have some great waves 30 mins max from your place!!! PM me the details I have 9 waves that cover almost anything within 6km of my place - add another 10 in each direction and you get a lot more. Normally 5 mins 80% of the time covers me. If I have some free tIme I am happy to do a Sandon run - 3hrs or a Seal run 2.5hrs.....I have also been known to catch a plane and rent a car and drive as well. It just depends on a whole load of things...from annoyance, to joy to escapism to going somewhere that I just love - they may have a good pie shop or do a great toasted BLT - or I may just keep driving even though i knows it's not worth it but I am enjoying what's on the radio and feel like a drive. When I lived in manly I just walked down the stairs crossed the street and hit the sand......but that wears off after a while because the crowds ruin it. I will go anywhere to avoid the crowds. I hate them

Never get sick of driving along the Great Ocean Road!

Just had a premonition... If I had terminal cancer at 75, I'd dose up on Morf, jump in my sports car, and find a good launching point off the Great Ocean, and go out with a bang! On my own terms, at a place I like to be. Hope that doesn't sound too morbid for a Friday night!?

Edit: But in reality, I would be surrounded by family in bed...

Hey Tassie I envy you ! My question was because 100kmof Prawn is within striking distance for me and SP - straight roads, minimal hills and nice roads in NSW these days makes a long distance trip easy - hence why it's always crowded at the known spots when it's on he knows something I need to know

You're a thinker Ted! It's wet and wild and cold out there tonight. I was fixated on a warm car cabin!

I used to drive hours all of the time. Now I just got a big selection of toys to ride whatever's close by. It's fun whatever now, I don't know if I enjoy it more now or then? I know there's not many days leaning on the fence anymore.

It takes me about 45mins to hit the surf from home in the mornings. If the swell at home base is too small the locals travel another 45 to eaglehawk (port arthur) but I wouldnt travel any more than the first 45 if on my own - I'm not that enthusiastic about cold water to travel 1 1/2 hrs for a surf.

Takes me 30 to 45 min depending on which beach. It can get expensive in petrol doing that too many times each week.

I'm lucky if the pipe is working I leave home 6am in the water by 10 past ,or the trip to Makaroi is 20min . One hour to the south is Mahia with several world class breaks . I think we have about 15 good breaks within 1/2 an hour of home . Work is just 5minutes away .
So you can keep your GC Asea , O did Imention we don't have crowds not like yours any way just the odd f---wit
