What was in it before?
A Thomas 10" great for nose riding but stiff to cutback
Ok...yeah has a substantial base on it the Thomas....I've mucked around with many fins in many boards over the last few years...for me I think you can't go past a 4a style fin...not too thick on the base too.
then I think the best ones are Volan glass with a thinner tip.
ive also not had any negative effects from going 1/2 inch smaller than the 1 inch per foot thing.
also put the fin 3/4 of the way back in the box.
anyway that what works for me.
as for your new fin...not sure but looks from the construction like it could be abit stiff?? Does the tip have some twang?

I had that Thomas and its a ripper of a fin, I found it great for big turns and drive but just Average for hold on the nose so I switched it for a hatchet on my Log...

But I agree with Mac, for versatility and turns the Greenough 4a style is great for drive and turns, would be rubbish as a noserider I suspect though... Just need to make sure you get the right size to match the board.
Def not rubbish for noserider... most of the top guys and girls are using that style of template.
Ive got afew hatchets and find they make the board pivot but don't really make the nose riding any better....They do slow u down so it may be easier to stay in the pocket....but marginal. I don't like the feel of hatchet fins.
the tails of the board and rail have the biggest effect on the nose riding.....counter balancing with water and suction the weight on the nose.
my 10.5 bing silver spoon nose rides like a demon with any fin....scooped out deck and wide tail make it a breeze...even on tiny waves......the fin has more effect on the manoeuvrability on that board.

He wants his board looser....as I suspect when he goes to lay it on rail it just straight lines on him before he can get the fin loaded up.
a 9.5 -10 inch Christenson fin would be my prescription for his woes
Look, I'm sure if your an awesome logger you could get away with it but I need all the help I can get...
And I get all that about the rails and stuff... Personally I find wave positioning is the most critical thing with NR, I mean, if I lock the tail on my 7'7" Lizzy with a 7.5" Greenough I can step up and cheater 5... And Dane was doing proper NR on a 7'6" Lizzy on the acid test...
But... Personally I found much better hold or maybe more stability with the Glide Hatchet than the Thomas Bexton... But that's just me...
As for turns, I don't surf my log when it's good for turns, surf the midlength... It's literally drop in, bottom turn then either run to the nose or cut back to set up a nose ride... Although I do like a drop knee cutback which I'm working on. And the hatchet I find works better for this... For me anyways. But I guess that why they make different fins right, because we all like something a little different
