I got a quad custom a few years back and didn't like the cheap plastic fins it came with..tried 4 different sets until I found DVS quad keels and they worked great for me.
The shaper saw them in the board one day and commented that he had tried them and didn't like them .
So it's probably horses for courses with them

I don't mind not getting fins. I've tried enough to know what I like and what works.

On a mid or lb there is so many variables I think it is to hard to stick a fin in it and say that's the fin for you.

I think you can get pretty much any mid length or longboard to work reasonably well by playing around with the fins.
Its not rocket designs we are talking about

Yep & has a lot to do with the waves your riding, fast sucky down the line, fat slow or a mixture of both. Do you want drive or be able to release the fins into a 360 or just or your own personal equalibrium

You longboarders and shortboarders should have a boogie board in your quiver.
You never know. One day you might be going over the falls on a death wave and go - what the f### am i doing

That might be the most smartest thing you've ever said...I'd also recommend a hand plane and some fins

I've got a 9'6 Noosa Longboards Tea Tree. While I love the board, I've spent heaps on buying different fins to try in it and I always end up going back to the fin set up that came with the board.
I've got an old 10'2" NSP. Don't like it with the fin that came in it, nor with any fin other than a Shapers Gatto - and I love the board with that.
My Friedman Flyer didn't come with fins, and I'm pretty happy with the set up I've got on that.
My 10' TSW Sea Plane was a waste of time with the original fins. Loving it at the moment with the fins I've been trying out in it.

So maybe it's true? What comes with it is often best, unless it's out of Asia?

You ever have issues with the Captain and the TA fins in the aussie fin boxes ??

the US base is narrower than the Aus base ,, not sure why but always make sure the board builder uses a US box, The Alkalis will be US unless u spec Oz, im not sure which good fins fit an Oz box

It's the pin height at the base of the fin mostly. The US ones sit a lot lower than the Aussie ones, so you won't be able to lower the front of the Aussie fin into the US box.
Bloody nightmare and always has been, for both board builders and fin manufacturers.

As said above, request a US box whenever you order a new board and you'll be fine with most, if not all, fins.
