Sri Lanka claimed the Warne-Muralidaran Trophy for the first time on Saturday after thrashing an Australia side that continues to have no clue against spin on the subcontinent.

Australia trails two-nil in the three-match series after being bowled out for 183 chasing a victory target of 413.The 229-run defeat is Australia’s eighth consecutive Test loss in Asia and Sri Lanka’s first Test-series win over Australia since 1999, which was eight years before the trophy was launched.

Great read - a few classic bits - especially this one - beautiful sum up of Manly 9 days out of 10

“Being a shaper that’s what you do, you watch people surf, you’re looking at the trends. Nearly everyone walked past me looked like Kelly Slater or Mick Fanning or ****en Parko. They all looked the same, they all had the right gear on, and had the latest thing under their arm and they were all out in the water,” he begins.“I counted 35 waves that were caught and ridden and 35 waves with different people riding them before someone did more than one turn! They’d go to the bottom and fall off or they’d push too hard and fall off, or they’d try an air,” he laughs.

His earlier piece

He made him two boards - a 6'6"x18 1/4 x 2 5/16 and a 6'9" x 18 3/8" x 2 3/8.

“With Tom’s one I knew J-bay having been there, it’s an amazing wave where you can ride boards with a lot of waterline length and still do shorter-board maneuvers because the wave has so much draw off the reef.”

Might be true - but everytime I see footage of that wave I think how much better TC would have surfed on a board that was shorter and slightly thicker. You see footage of him these days on a 5'4" and he is killing it. So something in the middle of that would have been great I reckon - 6'6" just looks far too long to me in this day for that size. MF rides a sub 6 in 6 foot stuff these days as do most of them.

Title sux, suggests a desire for the almighty greater YT viewcount stats & subtracts from the substance of the content covered in that it is far more likely to be perceived as racist/in-politically correct. Which it could easily be at first glance under that title...however when viewed in its entirety, the 2nd 1/2 or just the segment from 14:40, valid statements are made. Worth a watch, although it doesn't really offer any solutions other than to make you feel a white Australia policy was good for Australia or Japan's mono culturalism was great for growth etc...Do I agree, no...I'm religist yes, not racist...I don't believe a constant need for population growth is beneficial other than potentially sustaining economic growth. That is only good for companies & stock holders. No I feel a population regression with the associated decrease in property values, less land development & less stress on the environment to be far more important. Fark Economic growth...give me less mortgage, less work to repay it, more open space & less people in the water chasing waves...do I digress, kind of, but not really...coz if there were less people in the world. I believe less people in the world would be far more beneficial & alleviate the world of many of its burdens. Recommend from about the 9 min mark

That glassing schedule is confusing, thicker glass on bottom.

Usually when you glass a board , you do the bottom first because it gets a single layer, whereas the top gets 2 layers.

this means that when the single bottom layer cures, there's less chance of any shrinkage causing the shaped rocker to change.

But an interesting story nonetheless.

I thought Al Merrick did boards fro Kelly?? not that I'm all that interested.

Some great discussion here with GW in the comments section on flex - well worth a read if you interested in this stuff

http://www.swellnet.com/news/swellnet-dispatch/2016/08/12/slaters-teahupoo-quiver

Yeah good read, interesting they're being built to resist flex to work right (feel firm underfoot). I guess its usually a super glassy wave, so you don't need the board to absorb any bumps & maybe flexing in such critical waves could effect rocker & positioning in the barrel. Would be good to hear more on the theory of resisting flex, coz we always hear about the importance of flex...sure would be interesting to see the decks that have taken a few free fall drops. The decks of my boards used to always cave in heaps in the late 80's, early 90's. I used to feel like I liked it coz it gave a good firm foothold on the board & I felt it decreased thickness, putting me more in control. So I imagined anyway.
