Where are Guy Takayama boards made. I just bought a 9ft Pahoa. Didn't expect it to be sooo fast. Had a hard time trying to stand up on it. Waves were easy shoulder high but water surface choppy so didn't help. But did get a few smaller ones. Love it.

If it's Fiberglass California, epoxy composite Thailand or China.

Nice looking shape.

Thanks SP. Its epoxy I think. Well that is what it says on the surf site. Watermans surf. I think that is what I was told as well. I wanted epoxy too.
It is very light.
But. It doesnt have a valve like most epoxy boards. But the pictures on the site show it has?
I know that Guy Takayama was experimenting with different materials to suit performance outcomes. And Donald Takayama boards were more suited for polyester/fibreglass. I think?

Interesting take on it ... leads to very personal decision for both shaper and consumer.
Who do you want to be and how does your take on business look? Every business owner asks this
Every consumer asks .... where do I see value In the product ... the relationships.... the environment... the prime cost

The article does a good job of provoking thought

Some great discussion!
Having been a laminater, that last photo doesn't look right and probably no one in that room surfs.
The reality of mass production even if cut from computer file and finished by ghost shaper.
There will always be a need for custom boards although much less.
The advantage of a imported board can be the amount of subtle design changes with multiple boards and rider testing to get a great board at reasonable price.
As earlier a shaper has his own custom boards with good design and respect, the chance to get more income by having production boards from a large brand.
But custom boards have a vibe that everyone (from shaper to laminater and grom sweeping floor) is working together to get a great product to suit the customer around getting there time on the water

Ok then. I would expect to see something about poor indo and American and Aussie boards then.
Asians are responsible for the aussie lifting their game different and more innovative lay ups. For far too long them just did nothing

No so much with long boards because its not really needed.

Yes there was and is some poor quality. Same as in everything.

Ps i have 2 australian customs being made by to different shapers as we speak

And lets not over look American labels screwing over local shapers and shops. One brand has regular sales like sbw
Some really aggressive tactics .
Probably a bigger worry then asian imports

maybe the brand that bought out a local twin fin legend? . . The people who build the boards for years were blown off for cheaper whiter boards .. And everyone knows how good the 80s colour ways were
