buy one and inform us of your findings .....

I seriously thought he may have a few already. SP has a good collection by the sound of it. I do for my shorties but not for the big girl. How many is normal?

Ted, 5 is not enough and 15 is too many

Here some of the current collection, there are a few others in boards.

There's another 2 captain fins a 9" and the same fin as the clear glass one but an inch bigger.

I also have a bag of FCS fins

Do I have a problem?

yes i did. my feeling is with these type of fins, which i have something similar don't hold a chimed bottom board that steady for walking up and down the board.

watching surfers on logs the other day at the alley, they all had big area fins. must be something there.

also i think i could hook a harder turn with a fin with some more bite seeing a my log doesn't have any real edges to pivot off. im just using some of the ideas i've got from surfing the big 666's too

have a go anyway.

^^^ that's all you can do with Fins...

Keep buying em and keep trying em.

Your logic sounds good. I run the white one with the weird pictures on it in my 10ft, it is 9.75 and a lot of area for the size.

It definitely suits the log more than the dolphin fin next to it.

It came with my last board Vanders, I haven't used it,

But the website says
http://finshack.com/Fin%20Pages/Nine%20Plus/nineplus8''cutaw.html

Nine Plus 8'' Cutaway Fin
Ideal for a tri-fin set-up. This fin has a cut-away back piece creating a smaller surface area which combined with its slight rake provides manoeuvrability, therefore allowing a more progressive style of turning. Best results when used as a 2+1 setup. Shorter boards suit the 7" and longer, the 8".

Now that I have read it I might give it a go.

Anyone have any recommendations for side fins? I'm thinking 3s?

Yes - but it's a good one to have. Surely there must be a few of those fins that feel a bit lonely at times. I hope you treated them all nicely yesterday
