Yeah, it didn't fill me with confidence when the sales person suggested the test: obviously they know that not all of these waterproof cases do what they claim to do! I was grateful they were honest - I would be lost without my iphone!

Hey Dr Funk, I also have the motionx tracking application and it is great for comparing paddling speeds from day to day or seeing how far you have paddled! It does chew up quite a bit of battery though so keep that in mind if using it on a long run and then hoping to use the phone to call for a lift back home! Be sure to be fully charged before leaving (you and the phone!)
