Good evening Pipefins.

oh my god - the master wood craftsman is joining in as well. Seems SB has made it over to NZ good and proper now.

Roy has been a member of SB for two years on the 8th of July, so he posted by way of celebration.

He's also pleased to report that SUP riders can't compete with his designs.

Used to be an avid reader of Swayloks, until the hate got thicker than the funk that wafts from under my teenage sons oft closed bedroom door. Tipping point was when some clown who went by the handle of "Silly" declared war on anything with a paddle. Put in my two cents worth and was crucified from one end of the forum to the other. Even some crusty old plonker over there who pilloried me in rhyming couplets...go figure, think he thought he was surfings answer to T.S. Elliot.
As I recall Roy Stewart had a history of ruffling feathers and standing his ground regardless of the sh.t he copped over on Sway's. His boards were works of art without a doubt and the craftsmanship involved in producing them way beyond my comprehension. But, as I recall Roy could be a bloody minded and stubborn cuss whos opinion on anything from his unique fin designs (tell me your on the Breeze so Pipefins can feel your hot and sweaty breath down the back of his neck?), to the allege'd superior performance parameters of his twelve plus hollow creations (incidentally backed by GPS read outs). Did I mention this guy makes Boarder Paul look like the kind of bloke you'd like to spend fourty eight hours with in a Navajo sweat lodge.
Welcome to The Breeze Roy...let the games commence!!
Cheers

Howzit Sparx.

Swaylocks is a dump.

Regarding SUP boards for surfing, I'm not into it myself as I prefer to have both hands free, (especially on big boards so that i can hold on to them) and like my boards thinner than standup boards have to be.

I'm interested in the designs though. I started going to 27" wide on my longboards years before the return of the SUP and it gave me a huge advantage. The SUP gurus on Swaylocks claimed that greater width is solely used for paddling stability and is a performance disadvantage in other respects. That's BS though.

So how thick are your boards at 27 wide? Do you make then thinner to retain volume?

That's thin for a longboard. They must be very stable and responsive with that thickness.

I always say to pipefins that surfing is about enjoying riding waves & having a good time.
Doesn't matter what you ride....hand plane or shortboard/longboard/bodyboard/surfmat....or sup
Given that he thinks most of the world is made up of "haters" I haven't found much sympathy for this viewpoint from him

^^^ Hey Doggie, I got given one of those fcs 3d fins to demo (on a sup) a couple of weeks ago. I found that the tail rocker caused drag (like weed) until I stepped on the tail, then it slipped out forward from under my feet, but as soon as I regained stance, it dragged again...not sure of the purpose of it, maybe good for downwinders on boards with little tail rocker or for speed on steep waves - what's it like on a sb?

It feels like it drags, seemed to hold me up on take offs. I mite try it again soon, I should have used it on Friday but wasnt thinking about fins, I just wanted to get out there on my day off
They (FCS) recon they are good for stability but it didnt seem to affect the board in that way at all.
Maybe the SUP had alot of tail rocker and thats where you were getting the stop start feeling from.
Anyway, you want it? Cheap
