I've done over 100 vids with GoPro and only had slight fogling once or twice.. To blame the camera is like blaming a tire if you get a flat... IMO.

The GoPro Hero does not fog up like the HD Hero 2 DJ. Why didn't you buy the HD Hero 2 you got Camo to buy you the old Hero here on Maui? I don't have a problem with the old GoPro Hero I still have one. Too funny.

The HD2 generates slightly more heat from the new sensor and faster processor, you just have to take extra care with anti fogging Preparation mostly in tropical areas like Hawaii where there is hi humidity.

DJ re the fogging big issue for me. I'm only guessing here but the ambient temp in Vic is very different to the tropics. With my Professional camera set ups I constantly have to sink them in the water to cool them to remove fog. When I'm not shooting the camera is always underwater .When you deck mount a Go-pro it just bakes in the sun and heats up , would be a good test to sink it in the cooler water to see if it clears.

So here in Sunny Melbourne when we get cold air and cold water that might equal no fogging.. .

Actually my trick to not getting any fogging is to just keep the camera dry and out of the water by using a head cam or high camera mount.

I did manage to get some fogging the other day with my little point a shoot camera.. Not from the cold water but from my hot breath.. Because the camera was in my mouth..

I've got the HD Hero (not 2) and have never had a problem with fogging except for the one time I didn't "air condition" it in the car before use. It only needs 30 seconds right in front of the vent with the fan on high and temp in low. Close the case while it is still blowing. Too easy.

Now I just need to remember my RainX on the outside of the lens to stop the water drops forming - I always seem to forget that.

Yeah Rob, that draws the heat inside the housing to the water outside which is effectively what the aircon blast is doing when you fill the case with cool DRY air. The problem with the GOpro, is usually it is left to fog for a extended period and the fog turns to large water drops which are very hard to absorb back into the inside air just by dunking.

Most GOpro divers don't experience fogging as the camera is constantly immersed and cooled, it's the chill factor from evaporation on the exterior of the dome that quickly fogs the GoPro combined with the constantly heated air on the inside.

DJ doesn't need to take fogging precautions, living in Melb automatically does that for him...lol

No idea mate, their are dozens of copycats out there, most based on the same older 5Mp sensor of the GoPro HD1 not the 11Mp HD2. Also most if not all are made in China, same as this one above. Most use the Ambrella A5 camera platform in it's various configurations, it's the Firmware that sets them apart and what features it enables. Some are dogs, some work ok, you have to buy and try. It appears London Based Giovanni Tomaselli is Managing Director CEO. +44 (0)207 068 6700

Phil, all these Sports cameras are basically toys that can take reasonable video under the right conditions and use, including Gopros, treat them all as cheap, expendable, over-marketed and difficult to use and you won't be disappointed. However, with care and a little ingenuity you can extract good video from them.

I have had this problem a number of times sailing and surfing. It is quite common in cold areas. My friends have had the same experience.
I bought some strips and they worked well.
I have tried using some little dessicant packs from a vitamin bottle. Its hard to find one small enough, but they work. Until, a sachet broke and got the silica all through the camera.
I got them through ebay but bought a non genuine brand(because I can't stand paying stupid prices for stuff). The other brand was about $15, not $30+ and worked fine. I have tried them snorkelling, sailing and on motorbikes, and they work great!
The strips have silica gel imbedded in the card, Its not just cardboard.

I read alot about putting cold air into the gopro prior to setting out. there is one problem with that, cold air holds moisture. The more you run the camera the more it heats up thus heating the cold air. where is the moisture to go?? to the furthest away from the heat sorce being the battery thus fogging up your screen.

If you put the camera together in a warm enviroment you will have no probs. Myself and brothers swear by the gopros they go in paragliders, RC planes, Surfboards, SUP's, Kite's and dive to have no fogging up of screens, we have gopro and gopro2 and have had no issues. Water temp is around 19deg with morning paddle temp down to 5 degs..

Maybe before you assemble gopro befere a big paddle or the like, have it sitting in case whist on charge as the the camera case is the same temperature as the gopro thus elimaniating the difference in temperature. I dont use the antifog inserts, just aware of climate when putting gopro together.

Thought i better put my couple of words in.

Happy Recording!!!
