I like the idea of Viagra for SUP - it'd probably be the only thing to keep e up.

I feel sorry for athletes that think that are driven so badly that they'd risk their long term health, but I also find it ridiculous that we live in a world that condemns a high performance athelete for finding an edge while ignoring mega corporations poisoning the masses with junk food.

I had no idea that drug testing cost so much.

Does this mean that if we have drug testing the entry fees will have to go up (heaps) to cover the cost of the testing?

I'd say they, have signed up as it is part of getting Gov funding, pathway to Olympics etc etc.
surfing did the same thing years back. I think surfing oz can test already.

They need a drug policy to get certain grants etc so I'd say it's more to do with that than actually wanting to test people.

Great notice - all events should have something like this.

I think Surfing Australia have just implemented the testing policy after a meeting at the recent Nationals.

It's quite normal to have signs and statements about ""potential"" drug testing at sports events that aren't flushed with funds. It's more of a reminder or to discourage use, they take samples but don't actually send it off for testing, so don't incur the costs. But, the doubt is there so you never know for sure if they do or don't.

Given the costs it will be interesting to see how far down the competition ladder testing goes eg. International, national, state etc.

From experience in the body building scene and I am sure in most sports if the athlete returned a positive test they paid.

It should test from State - National to international - scrubbed out at grass roots

I guess this means we won't be drug testing on our downwinders.

dj, tell me it's not true

It's not just paddlers taking JACK up supplement but also coaches recommending it to there athletes - Not a good look.

Using a JACK up product will cause more harm than good - not straight away but a couple of years down the track. It weakens / thins the linings of the heart and arteries, hearts attack or strokes will happen. Not worth the risk to just win a few races!!

It is not only used during races but also in training to the paddler / Athlete can train harder for longer and multiple times during the day. You will notice a drop in weight loss as well as getting the results of training multiple time.

I think that the people who are trying to cheat are sometimes one step ahead, and so, you can't test for something you don't know about.
that's unfortunate.......................

But more unfortunate....is getting caught 1-2 years later when the drug testing catches up!
