Like hilly said just keep at it on the 8.10 .. You must be just going at it with your weight in the wrong places .. That 8.10 speed smashes it out there and so does the 8.8 ..

The stun gun would be epic too tho I'd love to have a crack on one of them .... I think you'll struggle on the Hokau, might have felt like it was better because it was just a different feeling .. I have ridden that board out there and it was corky and just out of control all the time.

Pm me and come out with us some time I'm sure it's prob just a paddle issue or weight placement thing, as the speeds seriously catch any thing ...

how'd it go with the acid---i still havent had mine out---grrrr

best waves here were jan 1--super choppy--rode my airborn and still strained to put in 2.5 hours

whatever the case the acid looks nice and fondles well

The X32 is designed specifically for small beachbreak waves. The width in the tail and overall curve in the outline help if feel responsive when there is not much power on tap.

Its pretty much the opposite of what you need for big fast moving open ocean swell!!

@damo666: Yeah, you're right - the board felt like it was in the wrong place. Had some great rides though.

@Mick: I probably over-dramatized how bad it was. I had a long session the afternoon before so my legs were already tired and it was particularly choppy that day. I am fine on the 8'10 but I wondered if there was something better suited. I would like to try the stun gun.

@boundeast: I haven't tried it... I got a call to say they had one in demo but I need to go pick it up. It is the 9'1" so I don't think it will be long enough to get the desired effect.

hi cse
could I ask why your flow would not be suitable out there?

Actually, the shape would?probably be great, but it is 8'7 x 30" and 121L. I should give it a go, but I normally find it less stable than the 8'10 speeed.?

Hey CSE

I ride my Deep 10'1"x26" in 5' and below, or my 7'10" or 8'4" in larger waves. The 10'1" is super stable and rips out there. I would be looking at a high performance longboard. It also helps with that paddle out.

Thanks Chris - I think I saw you out there on that board recently. Does it have much rocker? I bet you could catch the wave when it is still pretty full on that board, but how do you go with the steep drops?

But maybe I should clarify; when you say 5', do you mean 5' faces, or 5' swell forecast, or 5' Hawaiian? (In my experience if the forecast is for just 2-3' you can easily get head high waves out there.)

Yeah that board gets in pretty early, but can also handle steep drops. It does have a bit of rocker that helps with that.

As far as wave size goes, I'd say it's good in waves double over head out there. You have to just be careful with lips of that size landing square on the board.

I've got an 8'10" Speeed which I love but It wouldn't be my go-to option if the surf was big with "steep drops". For what it's worth, in surf like that I have come to really trust my JP Pro 8'5" x 30" which is almost identical volume but handles steepness better. (More rocker) I also Demo'd the JL Stun gun 8'7" x 29 x 110L At Merimbula recently and was pleasantly shocked at how stable it was for the litres. (I'm 85kg) I reckon the 9'2" JL Stun Gun would fit the bill for you pretty nicely too...
