Another little ditty for "The Dean"

I run the medium size C drive surfboard fins, so they are smaller in size then the Original Sunova fins.
They give me some extra drive and not making the board to stiff while surfing .
The biggest difference for me was surfing backside waves, for some strange reason they are just fantastic for me that way
Maybe its me but I love these and all I can say you should try.

quick session in lumpy stormy sharky last day of winter here in Perth.
7'11, stock fins.
effing hard getting up from seated when the reef is bubbling, seas lumping and the board is submerged, but thankfully i keep thinking of Eric from Paddlewoo's comments "paddle out of the hole" via sinking tail and keeping nose at highest. loving the challenge. this is the hardest part about a small board i recon, getting up on it quick, into surf stance, getting ur paddle in hands correctly in time to stroke while tail sunk, nose uppish and get it moving into the hook turn in 2-5 strokes and onto the wave. once on its a surfboard really.

anyhow, once on the wave - fast, so fast. recon speed is double that of my previous Jimmy lewis cork. speaking of cork, recon Bert is right, my older boards sat on top of the water and always felt corky, bobbing and unstable. these boards rails sit under the water and recon are more stable.
so yeh typical reef left this morning with fast rising swell, waves were running fast and closing out at end.
Made a few late drops, interesting with the wider nose but didnt nose dive it, rails engaged very well and boom off she burns. made sections i would not have on standard old board. wikid.

Fins - defo not a fan of fcs, not sure why Bert likes them. to me they have too much movement laterally, the 2 tabs arent enough and the fins wobble. A future is much stiffer at the base, what i recon a fin should be like then allow the tip to flex. ANYHOW, i recon i feel this wiggle when on a wave with late drop and the board generates this insanely fast speed. i am using stock fins, seem like a large size. maybe an after market fin will feel different.
need to get hold of a second set for north trips, not sure what to buy. not sure of these c-drives, look a bit weird to me. will get something standard shape like shapers s6-s8 (really love the shapers in my surfboards, kiteboards and old sups, but they are all futures), or some AM2 or maybe even some 3dfins.

You should try the FCSII system. The hold of the fin is insane.

Awesome naki ..I'm sure you brothers over there are getting plenty of waves..still waiting for some juice here.. got some hexa traction arriving this week for the nose of my board..I've seen it in a mates Speeed..looks invisible..and really good on board..chur.. hopefully get some footage up when the swell hits

Gizzie u would think it would be pumping here..but swell just not getting in..and when it does it's usually with onshore wind at the moment..might be the new board curse I've heard of..very frustrating..but you guys have been getting waves everywhere..I never new my crotch was so popular bahaha.. hopefully find a small break tomorrow for Father's day pressie

Great..looks like the only place in NZ that the swell has missed is HB..you would think some of the 6-8m would finds it way here..but no..we just got wind..

The 8'2 Speeed will be more than enough float, with 11 liters more than your Minion.
The width is only 1/8" more, and the tail is narrower than the Minion, but the extra float, combined with 1 foot of added length, should be fine in chop.

The real bonus in ease, comes when paddling for a wave:
the kicked nose of the Speeed is super stable under pressure, like when digging hard for a wave.
The nose keeps rising up, the harder you paddle..... and the Speeed paddles very well.

The Special sauce in the Speeed tail will be a great addition to your quiver and the narrow overall width, will just plain rip!
