i don't know anyone SUPing a board 7'6"*26, not even small women. how can that possibly be considered 'standard'? that's a water ski! but i'm still surprised how narrow folks are going on these Vanguard shapes. I'm most comfortable on a 33" wide board...so reducing width for a Vanguard shape would probably still have to have at least 31" width to be remotely stable. but if you guys downunder are all on < 30" width standard (non-Vanguard) SUP boards, more power to ya.
I haven't ridden one yet but apparently straightening the outline by extending the width forward and aft results in more speed and more stable paddling even though the widest point is narrower than most. Its because of the surface area which is something rarely considered since we normally only look at the volume.
Thanks for posting the video of the slate in the contest. The JP website now has all three boards listed with dimensions including the mysterious 7'6" x 28" x 4.1" x 115 liters. USA may get some in March or April. I have pre-ordered one!!
+1. It would be interesting to compare him surfing between the two shapes in these sort of waves rather than what looked like fat burgers in this slate video.
That's one beautiful looking peak. Apparently pretty crowded in the season, though.
I got to paddle the 7-2 x 28 last weekend massive difference between that and the 26 wide. I drowned the 26 and I could jump up and down on the 28 , it's super stable and feels way more than 103 litres . It does have a fuller nose shape. (no I didn't surf I was at a flat water session). So for you bigger guys I think the 28 could handle 95+kg's no worries. Still no sign of the 7-6 x 29 wide but going by the 28 it will be a board anyone can ride.
Re the way Geoff Breen rides make your own call from this video on his stock 7-4 x 26 JP (shot & edited Daniel O'Sullivan) .Geoff has put on some solid muscle since this video he's 6-3 and now 90 kg's don't ask me how he paddles these small boards. In the video above that Casso posted is the proto for the Slate made for Keahi pretty small.

Geoff is unbelievable on a sup. What size sup does he ride now that he is 90kg? And I thought keahi 's slate looked way smaller then the 7'2x26. Do u know what size it is?
A little off topic but does anyone now if that wood paddle that Keahi is useing is available anymore? Is anyone useing it? How does it compare to a carbon or fiberglass paddle? I like the feel of the wood paddle but most wood paddles tend to have a pretty large/thick diameter shaft and that one seems to not. Is it (or was it) strong enough? I can't seem to find enough info about it.

Hi We have the two smaller sizes here for demo and our container will be here in a few days! This shipment will contain the 7'2 x 28 and the 7'2 x 26 cheers

To be fair your subjective experience is such that it didn't work for you but that doesn't mean it won't work for others as evidenced by the number of positive comments across various threads.
I'm going to have the opportunity to demo the 7-2 x 26 in San Diego soon but I suspect it will be too narrow for me. I'm thinking the 7-2 x 28 might work though.
For me 6ft x 88kegs the 7-2 x 26 was too small the 7-2 x 28 is super stable and tons of float for guy up to 95 kegs in my opinion. That's my pic , hopefully try it out tomorrow but conditions are just sh!t.
Zues they are listed at $2,650 but SurfFx has priced the same as all the small JP Pro edition boards at $2,550 .These are not carbon but composite construction same as all the other JP Pro boards.
