Yer Kent I have surfed both the 900 and 1000 axis wings. Surfing and down winding fairly different foiling scenarios!

3rd session on the GL 240. This time north wind 20 knots downwind. Getting the hang of it now. So much faster. It's like there's not top end. Chasing down all the pockets and all the swell I could never catch before. Loving it now. So good.

Hi Frenchy, i have only used the axis 1000 wing surfing. Its a fair bit smaller than the GL240 so it would have to be blowing 30 plus knots for me to downwind with it i think. Having said that surfing it was good and i could pump out off the wave for a fair way. Its pretty fast wing no doubt. I will take a smaller GL wing out surfing in a few weeks and that would be a good comparison. The axis is solid and stiff but the mast is full of water and overall set up doesnt feel as light as the go foil and fitting together takes more time too. I have always been a fan of the go foils and the full carbon components.

Coming into this thread late....it seems there are a crap load of foil manufacturers out there. How has this 'go-foil vs. axis' been going for so long?

Sorry....maybe one too many Father's Day beers, and not disputing the axis/go foil rep., but sounds like 'Apple Vs Samsung'....when there are so many good options out there.

Fluffing about on Google for 2 mins, just as a 'tip of the iceberg' example, airush and f-one 2020 surf foils on the market....not heard much about them.

...I don't have an Apple or Samsung phone....or an Axis or go-foil (or airush or f-one)....

I'm sure I'll regret this post in the morning.....

Anyone have feedback about the Axis 750 for SUP surf? I'm 195 lbs/88 kilos... considering/hoping a standard fuze, 75cm mast and a 900 (mush) and 750(head high above) wing will cover me in the surf.

I'm currently on a GoFoil IWA w/ 24.5 mast plus pale adaptor. Pretty good all around, still fun, but lacking when it gets small, fat/mushy the mast too short in juice chop.... and of course- wanting to go out in minimal surf is why I got into foiling in the first place! Anyhow.... does the above work as an all-around sup/surf setup? Planning to get something bigger for Downwind.

They are two completely different wings . The 75 is a carving surfing wing also great for towing. The 900 is much higher aspect built for maintaining speed and pumping it does still carve but a much wider arc & off course Downwinding for the experienced riders it's A Grade.Originally designed for Sup some of the prone guys are using it and ripping g on it . Yes forgot to mention Larry Foiler uses the super short Stab and small rear wing. Just be warned when you first try it you might not like it as it's really unstable BUT you soon get used to it and things start coming together pretty fast. Axis also have some new MFC style wings coming out as well , they might suit you more. They have a deeper cord and more V in the wing , like a seagull , early proto testing reports are pretty awesome , all round surfing wing.

Well, the subject of the topic is "GOFoil vs Axis Foil", so the discussion is definitively on topic, and having thorough discussions on a topic is what makes a forum interesting. And there are other topics on other brands, too. What would be problematic would be some people saying that only Axis or Go Foils are worth buying, without even having tried the other options.

If you want to constructively discuss other foil brands, go ahead. Useful information do not happen by itself in a forum. People have to spend time and money to experiment and report. Whining because you do not get to have the info you want from the work of other people for free is something that can happen, but should be apologized for once sober...

My history:
Neil Pryde large foil: good foil nice stiff mast ,good price but only one size mast and no big wing(s) (yet)
Gong XXL: noodle mast and a lot of drag and slow
Gofoil: only one size mast, 29,5 +3=32,5inch=83 cm ,M200 and M280 lot of drag like the Gong xxl
GL240 might be a nice wing but too expensive...
Axis: Stiff masts, nice wings, a very,very complete system and much more affordable then Gofoil...

I have the S820, S920 and the S102 and 440 Rear(ordered the 400 rear), looking forward to the S900 and S1000, the new carbon mast and the new fuselage!

Yes the axis is nice and stiff for alu. So is the Go foil 29.5. If you light enough the axis 1000 may work for you? Be too small for me in a DW but I am 90kg.
Hope to try the GL240 on the weekend but not much wind forecast. I will share my thought if I try it.

Hard to say as I didn't try much the Takuma, I coudn't control the foil (and my friend wasn't comfortable either on my Axis 102 so I guess you need to get used to it). The guy who was riding with me was really fast on his Takuma, faster than me I think.
I really like a stiffer mast.
I should get the 1000 soon. I already use the 900 for surfing both on my sup 5'9 and my surf 4'3. I really like it because the lift is easy to control (even on my 4'3 on steeper wave), it has amazing speed and it turns really good.

Yeh that's it. The axis 900 is superb to control the lift on a steeper wave. Bloody fast to once up and going. Only used it on my Sup so far haven't proned it yet. Looking forward to that.

Easy to pump, intuitive. Turns well.

But I have kited with it (using the prone board). Holy **** that wing is quick in the swell. Scary fast. Been years since I've over run kites. Had no choice in the matter !!

and yeh the mast is super stiff. Quality engineering there without a doubt.

900 with a surf and sup works really good on wave. I'm waiting for the new ultra short fuselage, should be even better.

For DW I have big hopes with the 1000, I like the 102 and 92 but I think hight aspect wings are the way to go for DW, more glide and faster.

Was 300m out and ran out of damn water as the beach came racing at me. Had to send the kite out and into the ocean to anchor to bloody stop!! Will be ready for it next time !

Downwinding on a 900 wing using a kite or using a paddle are 2 different things entirely though.

I do have the 900 wing and have used it extensively sup surfing, kiting and winging.
At 90kg I had enough trouble getting going downwind paddling on the 280 Go Foil wing last season, so I am certain I will struggle with either the 900 or the 1000. (I only own a 900 ATM)

I'm still waiting for some decent wind to try downwind foiling again after spending all winter surf foiling and feeling much more comfortable pumping etc. but I am also sure I will find it hard going back to the slower draggier Go Foil 200 or 280 or even the 102 Axis.

So I am not sure what the answer is for me for DW, I feel the 240GL Go Foil would be a good option however I still have the original 24.5 mast and don't want to go to the expense of a 240GL front wing new tail wing AND the stiffer 29.5 mast.

I'd rather stick with the Axis set up as I like the stiff mast, I just wish they would bring out a bigger HA wing more the equivalent of the 240GL for us FOB's that want to downwind.

For the 1st time I could pump back out every wave, I would imagine it would be great for d-winding.

As with kiting catching a wave and pumping back out is still nothing like actually getting it up and foiling on a swell not a wave.
Anyone that has tried with the 900 (or any wing for that matter) will know what I mean.

I can catch waves and pump for 100mtrs or so no worries but how are you going to get it going downwind without a wave or kite to assist?
Get back to me if you are over 90kg and can do that.

I've used most of the axis foils with a 4m wing now. 82,102,900 and 1000.
I'm 88kg and on a 6'8"

Learnt on the 82 and 102. Both foils have easy early lift and stable when on foil.

I took the 1000 out in the ocean for the first time on the weekend in 15knots. Amazing!! This is now my foil of choice on the wing. Way faster top end speed than 82 and 102, points upwind easily and easy to pump. Turning on the 1000 also felt a lot more forgiving than the 900 as it didn't stall as you slow down for my weight. Looking forward to decent sea breezes to try a Dw coastal run.

I know it's not easy mate, to answer your question on how I will get going dwind prone - I have a ski (got it just for foiling) & weight close to 70 kg.

Cool, ultimate set up ski, prone board and a foil.

I'm a relative heavyweight trying to downwind under my own steam, hence why I need a bigger wing.
