good write up not many people understand how these boats actually work the 60 hp 4 stroke suzuki still winds and tide equals 1 liter per hr at 5 knots ( gps speed ) i plan on carrying 60 liters fuel ,110 liters water plus 2 times 20 liter solar hot water showers

I flew a helicopter over them many years ago (looking unsuccessfully for any sign of the Batavia wreck). I envy you your destination.

I think there are still remains of the wreck there. Also still discovering skeletal remains on the islands.

Good point Yara........WA is a coast full of nothing ( I mean that nicely ) Stores plus extra
will certainly weigh the boat down.

IMO the Mac Gregor is the best floating caravan for the price.

1400 shipwrecks on the WA coast. I reckon a few of them would still have remains and a few still remaining undiscovered. A few of them are in the Abrolhos area. Ild love to discover one.

The mutiny of the Batavia should really go down in Australian history. I believe even remains of a guillatine are still on one of the islands..

If you haven't already done so, I recommend Peter Fitzsimons "Batavia" as a throughly engrossing read. I know some people think Fitzsimons is a dick, but this book is a really really good read.

The guy planning Perth to Sydney and back in a Macgregor Should also read Fitzsimons "Mawson", the comparison between Amundson (the Norwegian) who was fist to the pole and got back alive and Scott, who died, is interesting.

Amundson ( apologies re the spelling) planned the trip to the nth degree. He used the best equipment and support animals available. They let the dogs do most of the work and when the food ran out ate the dogs. They put on weight during the trip.

Scot headed out on a "boys own adventure". He did not accept the available evidence that dogs gave the best chance of success. I think that Scott used donkeys. Scott was not interested in eating the animals. He and his team died.

The lesson is, use the best equipment available, and lots of detailed planning, to give the best chance of success!

to take care of the water problem I would install a solar reverse osmosis pump, get one that can be operated manualy, use sea water for showering you can get salt water soap. A solar oven could be a good buy as well, just in case you get out of meto raw fish is only good with sushi rice !
As I said I was not really impressed with the Mac performance (not my kind of boat) but I think you can do it, will take a lot of time so be prepared for that.
