Amazingly, and the site administrators should note this, we have just rolled over 10 000 views in 9 months on this thread.
That is lot of people to take for a sail!

Phil
Bass Strait in October - Yeah Ha
Blocking highs starting to retreat north , full sub Antarctic lows getting up to 40 degrees south.
Fair chance of snow to 300m like last weekend.
Look forward to that!
Who is coming?

People don't believe it is a wooden boat but wonderfully built by Doug Booker at the start 47 years ago!

Such a joy to look at all the pics.
I am sadden that a lot of these boat building and restoration skills may soon be lost soon.
Gone are the days where 15 year boys in Advanced Woodwork learnt to build two pin hidden dovetail joints for their cabinet drawer for the school certificate.
This gave some of them that love of working with timber. I can smell the fragrance now.

BB one especially for you!

Also the planking has no joins so as far as we can see the planks originally were over 12m long.
not sure you could that today.
You will see there are no stringers but the frames are bevelled to fit the planking.
Must have been quite a sight when framed up but the planking had not started.

I'm loving the change of colour Lydia.
Its like a MG in British racing green, just suits it perfectly.

Shaggy
Not a change just original
close as we could get to the Original 1972 British Paints colour card.
It is a Wattyl half tone AS2700 B41 Bluebell" we got mixed from memory to get the lighter blue.

There's some memories, woodwork at school. My Manual Arts teacher raced against my Dad in JOG racing back in the day so I also saw him out of school hours. My Year12 English teacher then became my mainsheet hand on the Blazer23 for a few races and we also did a few offshore together on the Davidson37 One Tonner Diamond Cutter.

We had it good back then, learning to do things ourselves like building and repairing our own boats.

Sorry about the lighting but you get the idea.
8 days to go!

Another restoration tip, accept the boat is old in this case 47 years so make it beautiful not perfect.

Against my better judgment and mainly because my plumber mate (he is an ex shark fisherman) said he was going to the Wooden Boat Festival , I have sent in my entry.
No news yet!
I am betting a "No, not the type of wooden boat we are looking for!"

When this one goes in the water on next Tuesday, BOTY has a cracker of a boat as the next job so I hope the owner allows some pics to be posted.
