Sands I'm with you on that one, it's the solvents we don't like that cause the durable finish we do like.

Nah!! That water based stuff is OK. When it starts looking crap as it usually does fairly quickly, You just blow it off with a Gerni and do it again.

Have you ever tried painting a door or architraves with gloss acrylic and got a glass finish with no brush marks?? I doubt it.

Oil based enamel is the only way to go.

Friends did 2 costs in the same stuff 10 years ago still looks new. Blow it of with the gerni below decks I don't thick so.
oil based paint is old school. Toxic smell and unfriendly to use!

My neck is feeling rather sore and my fingers are raw but happy with the result so far in the fading light!

I like it, I've never been much of a fan of living in dark dingy wooden packing crates.

Thanks guys it's been a lot of hard work and planing.
I'm trying to find a door handle to suit 19mm ply for my foraward cabin door that's going to be fitted , the only one I can find seems discontinued and was made to order to suit any thickness.
Any ideas or experience would be appreciated.

i would go for a spring loaded brass ball catch , mortice type into edge of door . then some kind of knob / d pull on both sides

Hard to tell from the drawing but if your mortice part is 16 mm you will struggle to fit it , with only 1.5 mm material each side .

but maybe its the cover plate that is 16 mm with a thinner mortice ??

That's what I was thinking, might have to beef it up around the handle.

Knobs slip when your hands are wet.
