Shame it's so ugly! Parked next to that Defiance does not help either.

Yeah. That Defiance puts it to shame doesn't it.

It looks Midnight rambler is still on the market.

If it is, it would have to be the best value cat 2 boat out there.

For the cost of getting that Justson to Cat 2 (over the purchase price), you could just get this boat.

Two things...

IMHO Jutson designed more dogs than not, the boat would want a pretty hot racing record for me to look at seriously!
Secondly, if you'd like me to have a closer look at the Dubuios 40, PM me :))

That sounds like a plan, thanks,
Just a busy time for me,
Will email you.

1979 DAVIDSON 42 https://www.boatsales.com.au/boats/details/1979-DAVIDSON-42/SSE-AD-5828052?pageSource=details&id=SSE-AD-5828052

Looks sensational.
No sail inventory, maybe just an error.
Has SOLD on one of her sites.

I'm impressed by this. No info on sail quality, engine looks a bit old, one has to consider potential keel issues, but generally a great design in good order and asking less than sisters with interiors that have been knocked around more.

The problem with the 40+ers is of course the cost of the sails.

I want to thank all who contributed to this post.
It helped me crystallise my thinking.
I still don't know what I want, or what is my next boat, but I do know a 'Day Sailor' has too many limitations.

I do recognise I am very fortunate with my 'sailors life' and probably should not keep looking for more.
This has been a great learning experience.

Awesome boat with that rig, but usually you take pics with the best sails so guaranteed to need to spend $10-$20k on sails (depending on how serious you want to race) plus I'd put money on her needing a re-rig, so that's another $5k ??

Hey mate,
Was going to say something about her vs Defiance as my tastes are either older or newer than Defiance!
X&Y is interesting. I haven't sailed against her much but my understanding is she's been pretty well sailed to her potential.
Not sure why she's so skinny, always assumes it had something to do with transport (container or road trailer) but I don't know.
I do know she really needs 6 blokes who know what they're doing to race her well.
The systems look well thought out but could probably do with a few new ropes and halyards.
That said, she's simply the bargain of the century and the cheapest way you'll get into div 1 inshore.
Some of the sails are very new, probably $30k spent recently!!!
I believe the owner wants something a bit easier to twilight with the family and price is so hopefully it moves quickly to a local owner.

Would I buy it for the derwent, hell yeah, for the huon, probably not the best boat!

If I brought her for the Derwent I'd contemplate putting a symmetric and pole on as the Derwent is one of the worst places in Oz for assy boats!!

That is (to put it delicately) a fair point, but I think she had similar results under a previous owner.

In last years CYCA Winter Series, Akela came fourth, four points behind the winner Scarlet O'hara, so I am thinking with a good crew they may do well?

While I did not proceed with the purchase of Akela, due to it being unsuitable for my future plans, I want to say
Greg Larkings as Flagstaff Marine was very helpful and professional.
