Any ideas for a cheap sailcloth replacement for those of us that don't have sails "laying about" in the shed?

good solid polytarp and contactadhesive then a row or 2 of stitching on wifeys machine.
cheap windsurfer sails from the trading post or even better the seabreeze buy and sell section.
I can see no good rreason that wood would be slow

Maybe I could rope my Dad into this comp as well, as we're both camping down at Warratah bay at Christmass, we could have our own mini minimini comp :) Now that he's retired he needs a new hobby!

Yeah, Nikrum, I'd be sewing it myself. And for the record, I taught my wife how to sew!

Gizmo, that look's waaay too conventional and safe. Not to mention long, how am I going to get that to shrink down to 1m? They are very pretty though. I've got a more open design in mind.

Well, it's slowly getting there!!!

Here is my effort, to have a giggle at.

"PANNIKIN" (a small vessel or cup) or when I sail it "I'm Pannikin".

Just the seatbelt to sew up and bolt it onto its mounts, and the upper half to organize now. Oh and it's name to be painted on. Got to con the wife as I don't have a steady enough hand.

The grips are to keep the elbows clear of the wheels and there is enough room to fit your hand between them and the wheel. They are very light conduit and will bend easily in a bad upset. Just one bolt to remove. They also help me to dismount. Make that clamber out disgracefully..........

It has stirrups as I've got a dodgy leg and a turn limiter so it won't jam your boot on full lock.

Hi, desertyank, it's still 1045mm outside the rear tyres and 1045 axle centres.

Yes sn, the wife offered to put a 3" tek screw throught the helmet after I put it on.

I might have to put a bit of medicine in the coke before I try to sail it, I reckon.....

You aren't allowed to wear Loose shorts when using that thing or you have to wear a good tight fitting Jock Strap. Don't want me Grandkids tu go blind or Deef Frum Yu's Yellin Blue Murder.

The other thing is where abouts the Filler Cap. Pannikins is fer drinkin outa.

here is a way to save some weight... maybe take the little blue pill and you could eliminate the mast base !!!! after sailing for 4 hours ... go see a doctor...

Yeh!!!

It's still too clean as the wind at Lefroy over the long weekend was too strong, when we were going to use them. (We stayed in the bigger yachts).

But..... I did borrow John's, wifes 3.5 m2 trainer kite and did a run down the causeway and back using it as a kite buggy.

That was different as I hadn't used a bar controlled kite, in a buggy before.
So at least it has had a run at Lefroy.
Even if it wasn't so gracious, Paul!!!

It did get a run against the others in the shelter with Paul, Bryan and Charlotte having fun "jousting" the mini minis. This involved trying to tip the other yacht/competitor on its back, starting the bout, from the facing position.

That is one MINI Mini Chook, I would be very careful of letting your feet slip from the stirrups. You could finish up Kicking your own Butt-----------BIG Time, or worse[}:)]

For a First builder a few months back you have come a long long way.

The stirups are set so the heel of my boot is retained under the bar with pressure applied. As soon as it's released you can lift your foot up. So I hope it's safe enough.

Yeh my first year of building ripens next month and I'm still loving it and learning lots.
March this year was the first time in a yacht and I'm still wondering why I left it this late in life to get involved. I guess I knew no different!!!

All you guys on the forum here, have a lot to be proud of.

you have till the end of the year to do it , so get thinking.
given the sheer lack of size the possibilities for materials and recycling are fantastic .Originality and novelty will be judged by acclaim, so Im offering 3 categories
first to break the speed

Well...................

I've thought about this no wind problem and with sn's help I reckon we have found a way round it.

The only catch is carting the mast round.
This is a 4600mm carbon (with aluminium extension on top which takes it to 4800) and it's still not long enough.

I'll need a semi-trailer just to carry the mast.

These photos were taken at 6.00am before the wind came up and it still kept buggering off with every breath of air.

Be scared Charlotte, be VERY scared!!!![}:)]

Looks nice

. The sail looks a little on the smallish side, but might move the beast in a big dust devil or a small tornado. I am a little bit curious as to where You put your brain housing unit when the boom passes by?!?![}:)]

I think all it needs now is about 3 or 4 vacuum pipe extensions-on top of the aluminium extension- and you should have a mast long enough

just make sure you have someone at pink lake to record this when you try it out........

I imagine the ambo crew wouldnt mind doing the filming
