Real shame about the finger mate.

Pulling the V will not be the same again.

Hope you make a real speedy recovery and are out at it again.

the end bit was not recovered. I have wondered about its fate, it's out there somewhere....pointing at something. It probably fed a family of crabs.
i will have a service for it this weekend.

Wait a week and then have a look in the back of Kitehard's truck.

Thanks goes to the guys who assisted me back to shore, and if anyone has any of my gear i will be at the beach in the near future with beer .

Always glad to lend a hand. Looked painful, at the time I thought you got done by a jelly or something. And someone has your kite and stuff, and I dont remember seeing a rip so you might be lucky...

cheers mate. It wasn't too painful at that stage, but i knew it was coming..... So the vegas lives!!

Sadly no the vegas doesn't live, I was the bloke that gave you a tow in and i definetly saw the vegas tubling towards the beach with some nasty rips in it. Good excuse for a new kite though

thanks big-time for the tow in, you're a life saver.

Beers (or U18 equivalent) coming your way.

a new kite!!!... that'll cost an arm and a leg...... consider this a deposit

(couldn't help myself)

Poor old kite. Not many kites have had their own song, sounds like its number may be up this time.

Not nice to lose body parts! Excellent photos, thanks for sharing the gore. My wife will not like to see that. Good reminder to all that this does happen. Heal quickly and recover!

Col, maybe you could get a Mini-me version of a "Captain Hook" finger prosthesis,
sure would help in untangling lines and would certainly help with the "some stubbon boogies" quoted earlier

Humour for humour sake only Col, anything to hopefully cheer an ex-Clare-kiter

My wife commented that "this really is a dangerous sport" after seeing your pics.
I pointed out that a close mate of ours did exactly the same injury with a ski rope & the end of a slalom ski.......

Heal quickly Col, maybe the "Kevin Rudd New Kite fund" will get passed & help ease your pain

Col, before your next sesh you'd better talk to an instructor - maybe he can give you a pointer or two.

Colin sorry to hear about your injury (I cut the top off one... about halfway up the nail when I was a little kid and it f'ing hurts!!)

Just like to mention though, in a previous thread where I complained about a wavesnake kiter and disregarding the giveway rules etc, I said I was concerned about being caught up in lines and if the kite relaunches it could do some serious damage. I was mocked by a number of kiters who said it could never happen and that as I poley I have no idea about how kites work etc.

Looks like this is a wakeup call to those (minority) kiters who think that lines in close proximity to people is no problem.

Well my luck gets better. We got ransacked on the weekend and they took alot of **** including stacks of irreplaceable digital photos. Unsure of insurance for rest of stuff at this stage. They didn't take any kite stuff

The rights of way and stuff will always be hotly debated, but to say that kite lines aren't dangerous is a well known dumb-thing-to-say. Most reasonable kiters will agree that lines can be dangerous. The remaining think it will never happen to them.
People, please be aware of the potential for damage caused by your lines. I got off lightly with just a finger tip gone, (i'll still milk it for all it's worth,) but one tenth of a second earlier it would've been my whole finger, a full second earlier it would've been my hand.

Thanks to those well wishers and one-liner comedians for brightening my day. Stitches come out thursday and i'll put in some more photo's if it's gory enough.

So Darwin kiters get the most out of this windy weather, it's due to end on Saturday, when i may be back on the water. But probably not till next weekend.

Col.

Awww feck Col - that is crappy news! These things tend to come in threes (if you are supersticious) so there may be one more kick in the bollocks coming - hope not though.

In the mean time get an A3 sized pic of Frankenfinger up on your wall with a caption saying sumpin like -

"This will be your freakin weaner if you try to flog anything from this place!! Now put the flat screen down, back the fk up, and go pilfer the cashed up bogun with 2 SUVs, jet ski, outdoor kitchen and jacuzzi down the road!!"

Keep buying lotto tix mate, I reckon you are about due for some good karma.
