Should of went out bud, wasn't that bad. Wanted to go right into the city but common sense prevailed. There is a place you can launch an land at Melville when the beach is washed out, definetly need to know what your doing though.

During the big storm about 2 months ago i met a couple of lads who said to launch from just past Dee rd. There vacant block of land there.. there is a bit more sand & grass when the river is washed up.

Do you even know where they are talking about ?

look how close the properties are on either side of that vacant block . Melville is simply a no go area on a cold front .

I'd probably suggest stepping back a bit and trying to read & understand what Dusta is saying here...
By your own admission you're a relative newby to our great sport, and we all understand & know how frothing you get once there's a bit of wind about - we've all been there. You've also suggested that you've gone kiting @ Melville in an onshore, frontal wind - after kiting at our beaches in an easterly, kiting @ Melville in an onshore front is about the second most dangerous/silly/stupid/pushing your luck thing anyone can do.

If I could be so bold to assume something, I'd suggest that Dusta's advice to you, is based on his very personal experiences of losing a close mate last year - someone who had much more kiting experience than you appear to have at the moment.

He's not being ignorant, he doesn't have a chip on his shoulder, he's hoping to share knowledge/impart some advice/wisdom to a newby/newer kiter so that you & your family don't have to experience the potential of injury, or worse. I'd safely suggest Dusta doesn't want to attend another kiter's funeral any time. None of us do.

We all know where your head is at Glasstraxx, we're all missing decent/reasonable wind & many of us are frothing to get back on the water ASAP. No one here on SB wants anyone injured/maimed - please take Dusta's comments as well intentioned counsel to you and to all (relative) newby kiters about kiting during winter, at Melville Beach.

Hey glass man,

I know this advice and bagging from the past few posts is hard to swallow. My advice for what it's worth. Tail between the legs, say sorry to all who replied, admit that they are probably right (which they are) and move on with life!

These forums can be a bit degrading when they get like this, don't take it personally and take the advice given especially from experienced kiters and accept that you've probably been dodging a bullet up until now.

I emplore you to take the advice for what it is and remember it's hard to get any intonation with the written word, don't take it personally mate, appologize and move on, you've got a long life ahead of you on these forums and you don't want to start on this foot!

Haha I seemed to have created quite a bit of stir. I am sorry to hear about your close friend dusta. I can see your really passionate about it all.

I know your all right regarding safety and all that, even before I wrote that previous post. Can see where your coming from for sure...it's a dangerous sport and **** can happen, the best way to learn is from being exposed to these situations in a controlled risk environment.


My post was more aimed at the way to really get advice across. Constructive criticism is much more effective to get your point across.

Just because you may have more experience or knowledge about something doesn't justify being a douche when trying to pass on knowledge.

That's what cause me to right that response, noting to do with safety or kiting Melville in westerlies..

Apart from kiting safety, there's a lesson here for all of us! Be careful when writing things in forums because a sentence or a word can be read 100 different ways by 100 different people. I can speak from experience and it is the reason I was banned from Facebook. I am a polemicist and it is in my nature to only care about what is true regardless of feelings. I think this thread has gone miles astray and everyone needs to drop their personal feelings and emotions and drop the thread.

Be careful what you write and when reading be careful of how you read! And when all is said and done, be the bigger man (or woman) and don't get caught up in bulls**t talk.

If all else fails arrange to meet at the beach with your arch nemesis and either kite it out or failing that pole each other in the eyes and see who crys the longest! Or compare di*ks in the car park! Either way experience will win out in the end!!!

A polemicist is someone who has the core values of polemics! Ironically you can google the word for an explanation on the very same device you asked the question on!
