After spending a while in Aus, I can safely conclude that kiters are without doubt the biggest whingers of anywhere else I've ever kited. Seriously. And this is from a "whinging", Pom(E)

"Noob", this and "Euro", that.....

e.g. Cape Town gets waaaaay more kiting traffic than anywhere in Aus, and I've rarely seen or heard of any of the locals take to the forums to wave their c0ck about or lambast the learners/ tourists. They'll just get on with it, sort out any differences on the water and leave the forums for the egotistic tools to have a cry.

If you're a decent enough kiter in the first place, you'll recognize and stay away from the hazards whether they be human, natural or man-made or at least be able to deal with them without bleating on a web forum.

Nor have I ever heard anyone bemoan a rider using his or her continental disposition for any reason

Sooo you're here to have a whinge about whingers lol

Consider the popular surf spots of the world...

If you consistently (or even just a couple of times) snake or drop in at places like J Bay, Kuta, Kirra, Sunset, etc, expect the locals to get punchy.

Not advocating violence but maybe kiting in WA just needs a healthy dose of localism.

For sure!!! I know violence should always be the last resort but where do you draw the line, I don't even kite there anymore and I have lived 4mins away from there for the last 10 yrs!!! When ever you pull someone up on something they pull the old "sorry don't speak English card" and then 3mins later you hear them talking fluent English to some chick on the beach that they are trying to pull??? It's getting to the point where my English speaking fists are going to start speaking the international language of violence. Sorry if this is un-Australian but you have the option to red thumb me, go for it!

People that think short tacking, or cutting in doesn't matter are total kooks.
.....
Not only do they constantly short tack everyone, but they follow stupidly close behind others, effectively blocking them from doing a trick when they aren't even in-front... the point is, this behaviour is stupid, inconsiderate and dangerous to other riders. I have no tolerance for this.

Totally agree with sir ROWDY here.
WA has 2 x metro beaches for flat water antics. Its difficult enough to convince those who dont NEED flat water for advanced freestyle stuff to stay away - but - when the freestylers themselves break the rules its way beyond anything near acceptable.
How can you expect regular kiters to be reasonable and head to anyone of 100's of spots that are just as good for their all-rounder sessions if those that shpould be there cant do the right thing.

Kiters need constant reminding that the only reason we have "the Pond" available to us at all is because WAKSA (with huge cooperation of Windsurfing WA) convinced the council & all other interested parties that this site was 'hallowed ground' and would only be used by advanced kiters who would accept & follow the 'tribal laws'.
This includes - no teaching - no beginners - no freeriders and no freestylers who werent prepared to walk to the beach before rigging up & keep the peace once they had.

Without locals & genuine users 1) doing the right thing & 2) self regulating all other visitors YOU WILL LOSE 'the Pond'.

This didn't stop some tool from teaching in the pond today. When approached by a regular who very politely suggested not to teach here and go out onto the sandbar, pointed out the obvious dangers, the guy teaching some chick said "why don't you let me worry about that, she's getting in some runs on the flat before the crowds get here"....

Teaching in amongst probably 10-15 windsurfers and 15+ kiters in the pond. I think the crowds were already there, buddy!

If you're reading this, we all saw you, you are a ****ing idiot. You mentioned you were here ten years ago when some dude died.... well in that case you of all people should be the one setting the example.

Working in Safety Bay every single day has made me realise how stupid the majority of people are. At what point does localism kick in like in surfing and people start to take matters into their own hands with the d!ckheads who think they're above the "law".
The pond is there for everyone to enjoy. The way things are going, if we are still allowed to enjoy it in a couple of years I will be highly surprised.

Apart from agreeing with Drew I noticed that karma took it's tribute today when the main offender tangled his kite in another and came down pretty hard in the shallow area at the pond

^^^^^^^ so true! It happens every day. Remember the guy that cut that guys lines about 3 yrs ago, where has he gone??? We need him back! Oh, that's right, he left, like 97% of the other locals because they were over all the bullship! And didn't want to turn a "fun" kite session into an agro fight fest!!! But when I think about it, maybe the locals are to blame for not actually physically putting to an end. In the past I have felt like buying an old pig of a kite and just plowing straight through the "short trackers" unhooking, and walking away[}:)], but the idea of an innocent kiter/by stander getting caught up in that mess has prevented me.

Sounds like my agro is being missed at the pond, might have to come make a visit on a weekend and ride around screaming my lungs out at everything that moves and crashing my kite all over the joint just to piss people off again It's days like this that i miss Kiteboy.

Totally agree with post. Think it was same douche that was practically riding up my arse few days back. Add to the mix some windsurfers who like to throw there epiletic fit to fast plant move right against the island...or do a speed run 5m downwind of everyone riding flatest water etc etc. I cant be bothered. Thankfully there are times of the day that the masses leave and its usually just afew of Jasons guys and himself enjoying the peace. Otherwise I go elsewhere and when the winter storms come through its paradise.

I think kiting is going to loose all its friendliness good vibes that come with a relatively new sport. The undies on the outside snotty pimply gansta kids from overseas and home sure dont look like keeping the good feelings going amoungst kiters.

I figure go postal or go elsewhere. Bad attitude i know but i kite for fun and some of these people will not respond well to a freindly wake up call and ive heard first hand ruski fellas threatening local ranger so whats the point.

Well it seems like our Short Tacking friend is now famous at the Pond. Everyone knows who he is and there have been new tactics discussed. For example every time he short tacks, crashes and loses his board. A helping hand escorts his board to the other side of the pond!

Nice Sci.........
Another easy tactic for short tackers is to come up to his board, stop, and undo all the velcro on his straps. If you want to be a total smartass then you drop it off next to him. Make sure you . Repeat...bigger .
If you have a crew, everyone who comes in behind him carve next to him and give him a shower. Big .

Tailgaters... Slow down, as he changes to a broad reach to get by you go down wind as well, slow down, at least the rider behind him gets a go. The only way some guys work it out is to be inconvenienced themselves, over and over again.

Mind f#<%ing is a great tool for ignorance and arrogance.

It's getting better!

Today the french vegas crew got assistance from a bunch of blindfolded LF-riders.

Good thing they spent most of the day practicing board off's in the ankle deep water trying to impress a girl...

the infamous short tack, practiced by a few that have zero manners or respect for anyone. anyone who does not get it has obviously never been on the receiving end of a short tack, cut off or tail gater.
this tactic usually effects a whole bunch of riders not just the next rider in line ending in a stack up in the circuit and traffic jam for a short period :(

maybe bringing back the biff is the only answer after a quiet word does not get the rider back to respecting the spot and other riders.

I have been reading this thread for a while but had decided not to post until I was down there yesterday and the obvious offender was doing it all day long. Is it not time a few people got together and approached these guys about it? Not advocating violence but just to explain to them that this isn't on? Please correct me if this idea has already been tried or I am just being naive.

i was trying to spot out who this guy is on Monday but the whole bloody pond was a riot and everyone was just tacking around doing what ever they wanted. short tacks, turning around without looking, turning before you and sneaking in then riding super slow so you can't do anything etc. That spot is not fun anymore at all.

In which case then suggestions are needed for a way forward as there is no point in letting a few ruin it for all.
Thoughts?

But I guess that anyone living down there can report a certain van to the ranger for abuse of the camping laws...

Taking a photo of offender and displaying it on some Notice board near the beach?

I think this thread sums up why i've always been too afraid to kite at the pond. Scared i'll get in someone's way who is pulling bigger tricks. Makes it tough for people who are trying to improve on their tricks not having limited opportunity to try the flat stuff.

I consider myself a local (from Perth not Rockingham / Safety Bay) but in 4 years of kiting i still havent gone out here

Imagine if 2 french surfers spent all summer dropping in on locals at trigg point????? that's right, it wouldn't happen all summer, they'd be punched out after the second drop in.
You blokes need to grow some balls and sort it out. Not sure if you realise, but these french blokes aren't on Seabreeze, and wouldn't care if they were.
They are getting away with it because you blokes are letting them, you blokes need to manage your local spot, there need to be some rules that are enforced in a way these fellas will understand.
For F sake, taking their photo and pin it up??? what kind of solution is that, are you serious!

what you blokes also don't realise yet, is that these french blokes will go home at the end of the season and tell their mates how they raped your local spot and you guys did F all about it and they pretty much did what they liked.

Next season, 8 more french short-tackers, the following season 30 more will show up. why wouldn't they all come? wind every day, butter smooth water and a bunch of pussies tip toeing around them. watch it happen.
