As its an australian event, maybe source your bibs from an australian brand/retailer, even better one of wa origins, Were doing it tough in wa so every little helps

I've tried for 7 years to find a (West) Australian supplier that will print and manufacture what we require... if you know a reputable supplier we would be delighted to start a conversation ....

A number of spots will become available in the following weeks once commitments to sponsors have been confirmed and fulfilled, state tuned. So, if you haven't received an email this morning (CHECK ALSO YOUR JUNK EMAILS), at this stage you have not secured a spot at this time.

As well, Rottnest Express will be running a competition for (3) three FREE spots! And, the charity auction of one further spot will be announced in a couple of weeks.

Nobody was excluded! You only need the KBA Membership in place by race day (even though there are many benefits of 365 days of membership).

I am a female who registered to participate in the twintip division of the race. I have been kiting for 7 years and met the qualification requirements to race. I did not receive an email yesterday so it seems I did not secure a spot. I would like to know WHY organizers only invited 24 women to participate as compared to 110 men? I thought this was odd when I registered but assumed you guys haven't received many entries in previous years but surely if more than 24 women applied you would make space for more women. Why would you not? So myself and other kiteboarding women around the world would like to understand why this decision was made and how this could ever be considered fair? And are you aware of the message this is sending to women?

Thank you Tim for reaching out to me and confirming that ALL women (including me) who registered were selected to participate in the race. There seems to have been a misunderstanding as I was sent the above email confirming my spot but I did not receive. Tim confirmed I will be in the race YAY and also says "we are 200% supportive of women's racing and have had an approach of actually offering all women a spot in the race as well as running an equal prize pool in now both TT (12 entries) and Foil (7 entries) and with equal size trophies also." all great news, thank you for clarifying Tim and for supporting women in racing! Stoked for the event!

So 100 percent of the girls got in, and less than 100% of boys. Yep, that how it works at my house:-)

Hi Kelly ..i felt your pain for 5 minutes ,then read you and all the girls got accepted,congratz....What amazes me about this race is the high proportion of D.N.Sers and D.N.Fers ...2 years ago 27 non finishers and last year around 50 non finishers...For participants to have a high level of experience in their application form ,why pull out ?..Not having a big kite surely is not a worthy excuse..Can Tim send some D.N.Fers t shirts to K.p.shop sydney and i will buy enough for my touch footy team...L 2 L ...D.N.Fers has some prestige and rarity about it.

Sounds like those who didn't get a spot via lucky dip need to play a race/religion/point of difference card (mates, pros, high profile perthanality etc) next year and leave the luck of the draw lucky dip to the middle class 40y/o suckers...

Is it a fairer application system to have the first 140 race applications quota...accepted for the race from a set time and date ? Than a lucky dip ballot. What is a fairer application system othetwise ?

If anyone wants to borrow a pfd 50 for the race send me a pm. I think its a large, maybe a medium.

I think the wind was fine last year so I would be suprised if there was 50 dnf. I have seen a list of times and it was a full sheet of 60 entries and another of 56, so 116 timed results.

The year before the wind was a bit fluky, but even then most recorded as dnf were for overtime limit (I think 45 minutes after first place) so lots of people finished the race, but slowed by the conditions.

I am sure it will be another good race and it seems the luck of the draw is as good a method as any.

Would suggest those without a kite bigger than a 9 might want to borrow or buy one and practise a few lighter seabreeze days, as the past few years has shown that is a possibility.

I was one of the 27 non finishers 2 years ago.
Scenario: Race start postponed for lack of wind at Leighton (17-18kn at Rotto at the time). Squall hit the coast so race started about 30 mins late. Happily sitting in 17-18kn most of the race then very light conditions close to the finish. About 40m out from the finish line I was taken out by someone else's kite falling out of the sky. Lines tangled together, lots of swearing and a self rescue across the line along with 10-15 others.
Was gutted as I was still powered on a 17 and bigger board when I got taken out.

Most of those D.N.Fers from 2015 didn't pull out by choice. Most guys had 12's that just wouldn't fly in the conditions at the line at the time.
As for the D.N.Sers, agree, very poor form. The forecast was for light wind. Be prepared.

Its 3/4 reach across the roads, virtually downwind, so go a kite size up from what forecast says.

Spark, you are absolutely right ... 19 women in the race when there are 121 men is definitely too many spots for women! Us women are taking up 13% of spots, how dare us!!! Perhaps organizers should reduce to only 2 spots for women then all you blokes could get a spot. That would be more fair right!?!?!? Unbelievable.

100% fair in regards to gender would be allotting 70 spots for women and 70 spots for men. If 70 women don't register then the remaining spots would go to men.

Another fair scenario would be what towradgi suggested ... the first 140 applicants get a spot.

I think you have missed my point....

a 50/50 split would definitely not be fair because there are far more men involved in this sport than women, I wouldn't of thought I would have to spell it out for you but there you go.

And if there wasn't 70 women wanting to race you would be nice enough to let some more blokes have a go? THANKYOU SO MUCH!

maybe... 2 spots for women is fair.

i look around my beach when the wind is pumping and there is definitely not 13% women down there pumping up.... maybe 2-5%, could be different where you kite.

just my opinion, you don't have to agree with it
