Hey man its looking good! If it makes you feel better I turned down the new "satin finish" ply for the usual red stripe- but my ****ty pump died 20min before gel time so I had to tape my layup down, this is two days of sanding/filling in and im no where near done. Keep at it dude.

Been away so not much further action other than a small blow out.

The peel ply I used didn't peel off. Argh! It was Some sort of new flash stuff recommended too me by the peel ply salesman that didn't work properly. Morrel of the story is dont trust salesman's bull****.

So I now I have hours of careful sanding to remove the peel only and no carbon.

I just buy polyester from the fabric remnants shop, about $4/mtr, works just fine.

I might try that next time. Perhaps with a trail first! What a fricken rookie mistake!. I should have known better and dones a test trial first.

I ride backwards out through the surf and booooost. Then fowards in and ride waves. I discovered that taking the toeside fin does not increase grip for boosting, But it can catch when riding dtl on waves. Taking that fin out gave better wave performance without compromising boostage.

Agree. I had 5 days last week out along NW Cape on an Airush Shredder and leaving the front toeside fin out is the go for me. I'm regular stance so riding waves toeside - even more chance to trip over a front fin. Anyone ride a mutant totally finless on the front?

First time on a mutant and I found I was able to use the tail fins to carve hard upwind heelside into the wave so long as I concentrated on not catching an edge

I'll give it a go and report back.

Tried the furtherest rearward mutant position yesterday.

oh..... feels good. All of a sudden my nose rocker makes more sense in the rearward position,
I can lean forward smashing a toeside bottom turn without burying the nose. High-speed Top turn/bottom turn carve on the wave face is real lush. I really like it. That's my preferred style over the over a SB tight bottom turn and cutback on the lip. I prefer to line up a jacking up face and blaze a faster top and bottom turns carving along the face then smashing glorious high-speed heel side carve off the wave before it dumps.
This board does that oh so nicely. Nicer than my old board.

Wind has still been too onshore for hard out dtl riding. But yesterday gave me a good indication of what it will be like. There was head hight dumping erratic surf. But that is where a mutant board shines of an sb or a TT. I can carve up a few sections before they close out then boost up on the way back out.

I'll have to admit i'm rusty as FARK after riding only the foil for 6 months. The more I ride the new mutant the more a recalibrate my brain back into mutant riding the more I like this board.

Also being more efficient I have noticed that the board tops on sooner and I need to downsize to a smaller kite sooner than the old board.
That's not too much of a biggy. It may affect my max boost ability I guess as I can't hold as much power..... But that is the trade-off for a more efficient board, You cant have all features at the same time. The positive side is that i'll be able to run smaller kites in those sweet waev days where boosting is less important. Then i will able to be a size down getting the benifits of smaller kite speed... so its not all bad.

Got out some decent peeling slabs yesterday, 4m swell and 20-38 knots. It was a blinder of a session.
How did the board go in the big swell?
God Damn fantastic! Holy **** that was fun. It holds power well, carves sublimely, I can shut power down, go fast as hell if need be smash some mean as bottom and top turns. This board rips in the big surf.

Oh fark yeah.

I really love the high speed sweeping carves and hard as top turn on a jack up wave face.

Now why don't more people ride mutants?
These things are sooooo much fun.

I understand the need for a surf orientated dude want to rip on a sb. But for a tt dude in the ocean, Why on earth use a TT when a mutant can do everything a TT does and then rip waves way better??????

You have great skills knocking up a Quality board.
Kitesurfboards are on there own for dedicated surfing .
I found that when surf kiting I take a kite surfboard and my Nomad Wave.
Have sessions on each board.
We don't do much downwinding only say a 1 KLM or so.
Found I can hold ground better on the nomad wave.Its a great combo with say a Whip or wam depending on wave height.
Quite a few similarities Plum in your board and the nomad wave.
I really don't need a dedicated mutant.
It fricken carves harder than a board.
And nice on the old knees.
