... a little up date ...
Raptor trumps Croc!!!
I got to talk to Chris, the guy in the story, and found out a few more details.
He was at Lee Point which is a regular spot we use (in fact I was there just 2 days later, on my own too, beach is used a lot by dog walkers too ) and he was using a Rebel 14m with a Crazyfly Raptor Pro. Due to the wind direction, it is a bit gusty close in and you have to kite past the reef/rocks to get into the clear air but as he took off, wind lulled and he stopped so kite went down. While drifting waiting for kite to catch a bit more air to relaunch, the croc had a go at him.
(insert news story here every one has heard by now)
With kite in the water, he didn't have the presences of mind to punch out so with kite still nose down, he had just enough wind to keep him from swimming back easily and of course could back away fast enough from the croc. The kite hindered his progress back to the beach and made it nearly impossible,,,,, because he hadn't punched out yet.
He used the Raptor to smack the croc until he could get traction on the ground and walk in to safety.
Bloody lucky dude indeed!
Cheers,
Robbie
