There a long and proud history of throwing eggs at politicians,even Prime Minister's. Billy Hughes was egged in 1917 while he was promoting conscription. The culprit was not charged as the judiciary concluded if you sprout contentious ideas as a public figure you could upset folks enough to throw an egg at you.
