Great idea,lets ruin for everyone who can and does drink responsibly

I wouldn't mind personally if it was banned. It's just alcohol. I don't really need it.

Of course there would be an outcry "You're infringing my rights" and "Prohibition doesn't work" and there is an element of truth to both, but you obviously have to be careless of the lives of others to get on that bandwagon so one must ask whether your rights should be respected. However you'd never get a majority of politicians behind banning because every selfish s**t has a vote. Maybe there could be an acceptable middle ground like limiting alcoholic content? or raising the drinking age?

I guess a mass education campaign like the occasional road toll mitigation campaign would be palatable and not totally ineffective.

Personally I think the drinking age should be raised to 21. To get your drivers licence at 17 then legal at 18 to drink really is stupid.

The point is that the 1 in 8 that die are those that will drink themselves into the ground regardless of whether it's legal or not. The solution is not to run around like the concerned mother's association and regulate everything to within an inch of its existence. You need to educate us and introduce an understanding of alcohol (and drugs etc.) at the earliest appropriate age.

My school did it very well and brought in an external bloke who discussed methods of looking after those who've taken it too far (recovery positions and signs of alcohol poisoning) and knowing when and how to react in the **** situations.They realised that telling us "alcohol is bad" and "Drugs are evil" won't make a bloody difference when we're at the Gold Coast for schoolies surrounded by friends passing out and people trying to start you.

Education is how you save lives, not by simply putting your foot down and saying no. I still cannot believe that we haven't learnt this lesson yet....
