The Mandurah instruments are operated by the BOM, whom generously share there data with us to make up the live readings. I think uprooting their anemometers might get us in a little strife, so i'll have to put the hacksaw back in the shed, and instead add your request for another privately owned station on the estuary to our wish-list of future locations.

If you know of anybody living in a house or business in that area, who has a steady internet connection and would be open to a small weather station on their roof, then let us know. [i]The data usage is minimal, just tiny little text files with the data uploaded every 10 minutes, or 30 mins (some of our stations are 30 min intervals only).

[/i]So, it seems Seabreeze are open to putting in another anemometer, we just need to find a good location.

If you know anyone in the Mandurah area whose roof gets a fairy clear southerly/ SW wind and might be interested in having a small weather station on their roof PM me and I will pass the details onto the Seabreeze people.

It's the size of Mandurah and it's waters which is underestimated.

As the crow flies
Liptons- Mouth of Estuary=11km
Litpons-Fangys=10km
Lipton-Novara=4km
Platform-Fangys (or wherever) =Minimum 4km
Then we go distance from the west

You start to get a picture.

The wind can vary a huge amount dependent on location/day

That's only the inland waters, what about the coastline?

Sorry to sound negative but distance is an issue for us as well and even we get caught out at the wrong spot because we could spend all afternoon just driving around from spot to spot, it's just the nature of the beast.

I agree one on the western side of the estuary and one on the eastern side would be ideal, and maybe one on the coast could be arranged if a suitable location could be found... There are a number in different locations in Perth. So let's get positive and start looking for good locations.

One near Liptons and one near Coodanup would be good. Where would you prefer for the coast - Avalon?

I was thinking the cardinal marker near Boundary Island would be a good place for a single anemometer as far as exposure to most wind directions and an "average" place for wind strength, but internet connection and permission could be an issue.

Basically anywhere which is more exposed to S and SW wind would be a better indicator than what we have now.

I just add a bit to the Mandurah station and that works for me but I'm a optimist

It anti-hypes the spot.

For me and crew, that's a good thing.

So call me selfish, ok.

Bugs has offered to host it at Avalon Point, but it may need to come with an "Avalon Sail Co" flag

Perhaps bugs can also add a webcam so I can check the surf.....

I host the safety bay measurement, I can provide details for a design that is working well and is relatively inexpensive based on a raspberry pi and fully digital sensor..about $300. U could mount it remotely quite easily using wifi & solar.

Very remote. Just need 5vdc ( few watts) by solar and battery, usb 3g/4g dongle, sim card, westherproof case, and u could feasibly put it all up a pole out in the water.

Maybe you could stick a carbon fibre mast in the mud and mount it in the middle of the swamp.
