Hi!
I'm looking for a board to use in strong winds. 3.7 to 4.5 and down the line sailing. I'm a heavy rider at 95kg and looking for a new quad board. I ride heavy on the front foot on my bottom turns so I need a board that doesnt skip out on me. Looking at det 93 Grip or Hyper. Anyone tested these two up against each other? The Grip looks like a safe choice as they promote it like it can handle pretty much all conditions, but I am quite interested in the Hyper as well! I dont want it too extreme. Because I'm by no means a pro, just an okay wave sailer who loves to punch a bit over my weight

You can see from the outline that the Hyper is a more dedicated down-the-line waveboard .. like the JP Ultimate Wave .. very narrow tail.

If you really think that you will have more fun with an extreme design, then go for the Hyper.

Unless you are very advanced (almost pro level), you will have more fun with an easy-riding Grip which is still good enough for Victor F ... unless of course, you just want to enjoy the psychological feeling of owning an extreme waveboard.

Thanks for the reply! I read that the JP is quite hard to sail and I dont want a board like that. I want a board that handles down the line conditions in lots of wind. The Hyper and Grip shapes are quite different, so I just wondered if the Hyper would be to extreme. Even though it will onlye be used in a lot of wind and down the line conditions, I want a board thats easy to handle by me. No expert at all ??

You ll love the grip ! Does everything you want it to with good speed. Planes easy . I use a 92 at appr 8 l above my weight . Newer model looks even more refined .

I want a quad that sits in the water when fully powered and pushing down the line. I have a thruster (Fanatic Mamba) wich works great in near all conditions. Its just those special days I need a board that can cope a bit better in high winds and big waves
Thinking the Grip will be awesome for me ??

Don't ask me, I do not believe to change the board-type to dramatically for this special days to be a good idea. You are used to the riding style of a mamba and then you need to adapt to the other board. This would not something I would like to do. But rather stay with the same shaper as changing also the shaper when doing so. As then they might have similar genes.

Yes, from your posts, the Grip sounds like the way to go. The Grip will be fun, easy to ride, and still a high-performance boards ... ie and not so technical.

The Hyper will give you a few amazing memorable wave-rides but offset but requiring a lot of extra effort & skill. If you're sailing 2 to 3 times per week in good conditions, and really look to build your skill to a competition level, then consider the Hyper.

This weekend i got the hyper 88. Tried it in side shore winds in Holland. 4.0 en 3.4 sails. It is quite a difficult board. Not easy planing.
That said 3.4 full power perfect control . Full power waveriding is a dream, but with less power it is a nightmare.

Yep. Exactly how it is designed .. similar to the JP Ultimate Wave.

If you are an advanced windsurfing (almost pro level) it will be pretty amazing .. otherwise it will be a challenge and a fair bit of physical effort .. offset by an occasional amazing turn .. personally, it's a nice feeling to own but practically not that much fun :(
