Forecast accuracy?
At 8am it was about 16knots. From 9 to 11 it was about 21 knots.
Swellnet got it right. So did this bom site
www.bom.gov.au/marine/wind.shtml?location=vic-mel&tz=AEDTThe waves were about two foot with some sets around three. They were full and breaking in different spots. It's only my second time at point danger and I am yet to find the ideal launch spot to get the good waves.
The SUP
I started on the JP SUP 9"2'. It's 136l and is easy to ride. It points up wind well. I would say however that the nose rides quite high and is therefore hard to get on the plane. It turns slowly - like my JP 101 FSW.
The sail I used was too big (6.0 gator) I think this contributed to the slow turning. I don't think these SUPs work in the waves with anything more than a 5.5m.
When the wind picked up it was hard to control. No foots traps = catapult. I swapped to the FSW.
I also took this SUP for a paddle in the bay. I started out as a total spaz. But after 10mins I got the hang of it.
It's really cool knowing that after driving to Torquay, if there was no wind, I had the option of paddle boarding
