A little reminder to those using Tasmania's wilder areas, such as Bellbuoy Beach.

I came across this little whipper-snapper yesterday whilst walking the dog (on lead!). Greenie spotted a similar size relative a few weeks ago. With the onset of warmer weather they seem to be VERY active, so don't go stomping through the undergrowth, and check the sides of the paths when you head down to the beach in places like Bellbuoy.

This one was over 1.5m in length, and a solid, healthy looking specimen, and so would put you in hospital no problem, if you were lucky.

I am considering getting the brush-cutter up to BB to get the rampant undergrowth back from the path a little...

Sorry for the rotation - can't get rid of it.

Nasty little critters , not little though.
Summer has crept up fast, and they are about, .
So we have three different species of snake in Tas , all (Deadly) Got that off N.I.T.Vchannel 34.
Tiger, Brown, and little Whip.
Seen a couple of Tiggers at cliffton beach access , orange and black stripes, Brown's just brown, and Whips look like my tape worm.
Take care, i hate the silent buggers.
Love a photo though , nice.
See if we can catch another close encounter, .
Nice scary photo.

Correction (sorry) Three snakes of Tassie are; Tiger, Lowland Copperhead and White lipped. Many Tasmanians call the the White Lipped a Whip Snake, however, this is not entirely correct as the true whip snake comes from a different Genus and is only found in mainland Australia.
In Tasmania you will only be bitten by either a Tiger or Copperhead, you do not need to identify which one bit you as they both use the same antivenin.

Interesting points from book of Genesis: chapter 3

sed et serpens erat callidior cunctis animantibus terrae quae fecerat Dominus Deus qui dixit ad mulierem cur praecepit vobis Deus ut non comederetis de omni ligno paradisi

not related, but interesting

No expert here, but I've heard that the fangs in Tigers and Coppers are short and way in the back of the mouth. Apprently thick socks are enough to stop a bite, so I would think a 3mm thick wetsuit would serve as very good protection. Still wouldn't like to be bitten tho.

What we gotta do is introduce the wriggly land based things to the finned water based things, give em a book of Queensbury rules and stand back.
