With the last round of the season approaching, on Stanley march long weekend. I have noticed that GE has updated some areas. It maybe of some interest, especially now with the good speeds coming from Stanley.

If slalom racing is on, It'll be most likely held in the bay. Due to the channel situation at the inlet.

Yea that's awesome Perks.

Very recent imagery too 9th Dec last year for Stanley - would seem most of Tassie has been updated.

Wow Johnno - that really shows the headland/spit has been smashed over the years!
If we don't get crazy storms smashing that headland, the river should flush out a wider longer 3rd channel... fingers crossed.

Just goes to show what we take for granted, we're actually living on a planet that has a mind of it's own.

Wow, great to see the update and how precisely it shows the run we're all focusing on at the moment.

Todd and I rigged from the southern end today at the shortest distance to the Third Channel. We parked near the bank to get protection from the wind.
It shortened the distance by about a third. You could park closer to the channel, especially if you had a real commando vehicle ... like a Pajero ... but I reckon wind exposure would be a problem, rigging in 30+ knots would be a challenge.

Main downside was rigging on sand, or patchy maram grass.
Also, its all walking ... you lose the option of sailing in shallow sections of channel as the tide gets higher than about ? low.
One upside is a better view of action in the channel. We had a good view of Cookie charging up and down the channel as we de-rigged.
Overall, most of the advantages are balanced out with disadvantages.

Here's the link for my tracks which shows where we rigged.

Yep, the wagon was no trouble along the beach.
But to venture out across that wild terrain to get closer to the channel you'd definitely need a BearhooverCat.

Can't hurt to try..... What's the worst that can happen, jibe marker?

Nothing worse that an armored wanker as a jibe marker though....[

Half a dozen BearhooverCats in a tight semi-circle formation to create some wind protection about 20 metres from the channel.
Then you could set up a couch, a bonfire and a barbecue (beer and steak of course), sit back and watch Cookie, the Perks (x2), Dave and Buzzy battling it out in the Gunfight in the Third Channel. Maybe even have a few runs ourselves ... between beers.

All the action ... live on Channel 3.

Got any spare Pajeros, Ben?
