Hi
I want to upgrade my gear from old long board to freeride. Is there any chart to understand what the preffered board volume for certain human weight is? I understand that everything depends on many factors but…. The main factor – I am from ACT and frequently sail on lake where wind can stop suddenly for few seconds and I need some flotation in order not to sink. However I do not need over sized staff to be able to sail on the coast as well. I am 85 kg. Thanks!

another factor to look out for is board width.

The newer lit is a little der which allows you to get onto plane earlier.

Regarding boards, sorry can't offer any advise, would recommend having a look around at different mags to check write ups though.

I'm 80kg and sail a 106L board. This volume floats me OK. Biggest sail i use is a 7.5 and i can uphaul it if need be.

This board/size is good for lakes and coast.

You might need a slightly bigger board for your weight, say 110L. Depending on the max size sail you intend to use, do not get a board bigger than that which will float you if the need arises. More fun and better performance.

G'day Alex

I lived in the A.C.T for two years. I am 85 kg and 6'2
the main factor about sailing on lake burleigh - griffin is it is freshwater and does not have the same buoyancy as salt water, so an extra few litres in the board is well worth it!
If i was you Alex i would look at the 120 - 125 litre boards with a 7 - 8 m2 Race sail.

the boards i would look at are the starboard carve 122 lt or tabou rocket 69 (125 lt which i currently use and love )
hopefully this help you sailing on the lake
cheers
Jason
