I have a 7,0 Maui Venom 2017 ,it handles lots of wind but doesn't give much feed back feels rigid
It has 8 battens and 4 large cams ,feels heavy to use ,
I am thinking of purchasing a Mach 7,0 ,is it a good move ?

I guess what you want is someone who has ridden both. I havent, but have sailed the severnes over the years, and they certainly have changed. The maui as you describe it sounds a lot like what an R8 was, handles lots of wind, but very locked in shape.

the machs that i've ridden to date have been much gruntier/orientated to be rigged in less wind than the Reflexes were. I've not ridden the m7 yet. Maybe wait to hear from someone who's riding them for tge best input..

I don't think I'll be much use as I'm a lightweight with different needs but I hate race sails.
I don't have the latest and greatest probably 2020 but I find the Machs dead and no feedback unless they are really powered up. They are probably designed to be used overpowered but we don't often get enough wind for me to sail like that.
They will be more stable and handle being overpowered better but I prefer a 3 cam. A bit more feedback and still pretty good until you are really overpowered.
I have overdrives but they have now been replaced with Motos.
The ODs ( 3 cams) will turn " inside out" if you're mega overpowered. I've only noticed that lately. Maybe because I've been using them in more wind lately. I still prefer their feedback to the Machs.
I don't get to sail the Machs much as they are my 5.5m - 5m so my dislike may be from not knowing them very well.

Thanks Guys ,basically i'm looking for a lighter more easier 7.0 race sail
but still want to use it fully powered ,I did own a severne 7,8 a while back and I was impressed by how light it was
and still handle a huge among of wind ,I really want it for my new Isonic 63 sail range 5.5 -7,0 ,I'm just thinking Severne are lighter
and 7 battens vs 8 ,I always thought would have more low end and easier handling .I do read Phil's blog and he always mentions
about 7 battens being the correct amount ,like most 7,0 race sails have now ,my 7,7 maui venom is a 7 batten sail and has a lot better feel to it .good low down power .

Hi Tardy, the Mach sizing altered a bit this last year, the M6 6.5 would be a perfect fit with that 63w Isonic, similar power to the 7.0m in earlier machs if your looking at a M5 or earlier

I haven't tried the Venom sails but I can highly recommend the Mach series from severne. I have gone through the Code Reds then the Reflex series (very stable but also heavy) and now I'm sold the Mach sails. The Mach series still has all the stability of the Reflex full on race sails, but with the reduced weight it is really a much nicer feeling. Very light in the hands and early going in lighter winds, and still handling full power without any problems.

I now have a 7.8 (M1), and the 6.2 and 7.0 in M3, there is no need to use Overdrives anymore when the race sails are this lightweight. The 7.0 is a very nice size and my favourite allround slalom sail, it is a pity if they are not making that size anymore...

Correct in all the above.

A few who sail on the river have let me try their latest Severne race sails. M6 7.8 and a M6 7.0

Extraordinary light was my main comment after sailing both.

The 7m felt so powerful for its size. The 7.8 felt so light and i was able to hold it in decent winds when other sails of its size i would head upwind.

The earlier Mach series were still really fast but felt way heavier.

I had a 7.7 Venom and they are also light sails. It had a long clew length and quite long luff which i disliked and i sold it.

I still think in the smaller sizes from 6.3 and smaller the Maui sails are the nicest. They have shorter luffs which makes the sail feel a little smaller and easier to hold and two more battens which also offers extra control in the gusts.

Any bigger than 6.3 i would go with Severne sails due to their incredibly light feel.

I LOVED my Machs in the 7.0m. Slalom or Free Race 100l board, 18-28knot gusts. Just amazing sails. So controllable and light. The new Mach 6 7.5m covers the old 7.8-7.0m range. It's quite incredible. So now the 6.5m I'm using in 25-30 knots

Thanks wa881 ,everything points to the Severne ,There really wasn't much available to buy in the 6,5 range ,
so I ended up buying surffx"s last 7,0 M5 at a good discounted price ,I think I will be happy with this sail ,
I have a pretty good 6,2 Duotone warp race sail even though its a heavy sail for its size ,so it was the right choice I think ,

The Mach5 7m remains my all time favourite - if using the right Severne mast, just rig it to spec and sail it

One word of caution. Just because the curve shape (does the top or the bottom bend) In the same in the chart doesn't mean the stiffness / amount of total bend is the same. Your Imcs still needs to match. Maybe I have my theory wrong but I'm basing it on this real world example:

I had an old gaasta mast that was identical curve type and carbon content to the severne mast, but the gaasta mast must have been alot stiffer as it was way harder to downhaul than the severne.

So while the shape was the same, for a given amount of luff tension (rigging to a mark) I believe the gaastra had less pre bend. I had to downhaul it past the mark for the same amount of loose leech.

both have IMCS of 21 ,so heres hoping ,luckily my Maui was a recent model and is a 100% constant curve ,
I have never had luck with any Gaastra mast matching anything ,
I will know at the end of the week when the sail arrives ,I will post a photo ,see that ya recon .
I know nothing will be as perfect as a severne ,

If you want a full on race cam get a full on race cam ... but you might guess what my suggestion is. You should try a Point-7 AC-0, at its price you can actually buy to try!

Or maybe an AC-2. They even have a slightly tuned down full on, the AC-1 PRO, without going full PWA with the AC-1 LTD. The whole line race is based on the AC-1 outline.

Looks great, and very similar to the 7.0 M3 that I use with a severne mast. So your mast will likely work just fine. :)

Great looking sails Duzzi ,but very hard to get in Australia ,I do how ever have a 7,9 2019 ACX ,Nice sail but dies in the lulls ,
but who knows if the the 2 cam was available over here I probably would of got one of those ,maybe next time .

hope to test it soon ,but I'm happy with how it rigged up rotation was smooth as silk ,any tips on rigging I found I had to put the top and bottom cam on first ,I down hauled it then out hauled it then let the DH off slip on the cams then full DH .was a tight fit ,but it is new ,I wet it down first so it would move ,left it rigged in the shed for 5 hours ,but its going to handle some wind with my weight at 100 kgs which is what I wanted it for to sail overpowered ,save taking other sails to a event ,I did notice it set best at full DH .Like my older M1 7,8 ,
