It aint broke, it's just stuck. I think there have been some recent discussions on how to get a stuck mast apart.

BTW - why don't you just rerig a sail with bend opposite to luff curve and leave it for a day or so.

thiers sand /dirt stuck in the conection point ... so i cant pull it apart to fix the kink .... the small diamiter pipe that is inside the 2 other shells in kinked .... im afraid that trying to bend back will snap it off and destroy the bottom half

Hey Nick0,

You don't have to pull the mast apart to do what Sausage suggested.. Just take the mast out of the sail, twist it around half a turn, and then put it back in. This will mean that the mast will 'want' to bend opposite to the way the sail will pull it, hopefully making it all become straight again.

But by 'kinked' do you mean you're using an aluminium mast? If so then buy a new one

Nicko
Just PMed you - but if you are storing your rig under the verandah at that house, it may have been prone to UV exposure over winter. Nebbian or sausage may have some knowledge on uv exposure / mast damage. Bummer - Sunday is looking good for a NW er

Sorry Nicko - just read your storing in the garage - my teacher always said I was a poor reader......

Hi Nicko,
I have been in the same predicament as you have. The easiest and safest way to get your 2 piece mast apart is to remove the sail from the mast and then get hold of 2 booms and place one on the mast just above the join and the other boom just below the join. Then you have some leverage on the mast and should be able to free up the join by twisting the 2 sections.

we use hot water down the top end of the mast and two boom clamps lightly clamped ontp the mast with a strip of rubber inbetween the clamp heads

thankyou for all your sugestions.... after clamping 2 booms on and trying to twist and rotate it deformed the carbon weave ....... so i cut the bottom part just under the conection with haxsaw and found that the last time i repaired the mast resin ran down to were the 2 parts joined ........ so basicly it was never going to come apart ...... onto a new mast ......does anny one have a 400( 18/19 stiffness) for sale cheap
thankyou
