is it only in the low end where there is a performance loss, or is top end stability impacted too?
How will the sail perform as a whole? is it a workable option?

I had similar discussions with a Severne tech guy. Outcome: The Severne 7.0 sails can often be used with 430 and 460 masts. 460 is recommended but 430 works if you are a lighter sailor. If you are heavy, the 430 might be too soft (because you would use the sail for stronger winds).
With RDM instead of SDM there is more sail material to form a deeper profile and could give slightly more low-end power.
If you are not too heavy and don't earn a living with windsurf racing, I'd give it a try.
