Guys, I wonder if this 0.4m difference Freek 5.9m ver 6.3m can make any difference for low wind bump-jump on freestyle board or just -minus a single knot kind of deal..? If you had experience with these 2 sizes please comment.. Also wonder which is a faster sail of these two... Accept that second question maybe somewhat silly since I would use 5.9 in bit more wind... just concerned if 6.3m is much more draggy sail..

No experience with these sails but a 6.3 will never ever feel as nice as a 5.9m when there's decent wind.

The swing weight for one is way higher.

I have a 6.3 Maui 2018 slalom sail that compared to my 5.4 and 5.6 slalom sails feels like i am sailing the QE2.

I clearly go faster overall on the 6.3 but the enjoyment factor for gybes especially is not there.

I keep it mostly for light winds and rigged like a bag it planes amazing.

Or if i want to hit 30 knots.

The 6.3 and 5.6 freeks feel like they have good spacing for me (both fin and foil) at 94kg. I've had some days where 6.3 was a bit too much and 5.6 made life easier, but not huge. Currently have a 5.0 blade and 4.4 freek as well and I'd prefer to have a freek instead of the 5.0 blade, due to feel and low end power for most of my usage. Only really want to use the blade when really powered up. Not sure a 5.9 would make a big enough difference compared to 5.6 and 6.3 but I haven't tried.

Used mainly on 115 dyno and 135 kode and my skills are pretty low intermediate on fin. When I'm powered the 5.6 feels really good on the dyno, up to where the board starts to feel a bit big. 5.6 is also a sweet spot for foiling for me but I don't think that's something that concerns you.

I feel I am qualified to answer this one. I have been on Severne since 2008, and freestyle in a lot of marginal wind at 6'7"/240#. 5.9m2 and 6.3m2 have been my most used sizes. They were introduced in 2009 on the S-1 as a freestyle specific sail. They had a couple of tube battens to give them stability and keep them as light as possible. The first Freeks in 2015,2016 were not very good in these sizes, but improved a lot in the 2017-2018 versions of the Freek. I currently am sailing the 2021 Freek ( I think this was designed for Amado) and I think 5.9m2 is all I need for anything under 20 mph. It has all the low end I need and depowers well for freestyle. If 5.9m2 is as big as I am going, I can't imagine there is much of a market for the 6.3 now.

Why would you want a freestyle sail for bump and jump? I would have thought they would be very unsuited to that.

Not at all. Freestyle sails around 6m is better suited than a 6m wave sail for bump and jump. Especially in wind conditions that has lulls. Remember my yellow sail. That's a Freek 6.3m, which I use with my 116l flare. Both freestyle kit that is great in light bump and jump conditions. The freestyle kit can get you going in lighter winds than other type of sailing kit.

By the way, it looks like they stop now at 5.7 and stopped making the 5.9 and 6.3?

Shrinkflation

I guess they found that for bigger sail sizes, people tend to prefer more structure. The need to keep inventories trim means niche sails don't survive.

Yeah it's a shame as it was my most used one. Not sure what sail I would replace it with.

is your 6.3 ok with a 100l freestyle board? how many knots do you need?

I'm hoping someone else can answer that. It has a lot more power in it than my freeride sails (gator, cheetah), but I can't say much other than that.

For freeriding yes, but it would be big for freestyling. I use my 6.3 Freek with 116l flare.
