Put this on Facebook but will put it up here too.
Bit of background, there has been pushback about dogs off leash from local residents, namely the guy living directly opposite the boat ramp. He has put in complaints that off lead dogs have come into his kitchen, as if. So they have moved the off lead area north, away from his house to please him. This puts the unused part of the beach on leash, and the loose dogs with everyone else, daft idea.
Also, the council are not permitted to make the dog beach permanent until they get a relaxation of the no off lead dogs in the marine park rule. This is controlled by the state government.
Incidentally, chatted with a council planner the other day. The state government is also preventing any more erosion control measures being implemented at Queens, only allowed to repair as they have done unless infrastructure or houses actually become threatened.
I attended a small meeting of dog owners, they were very against moving the off leash area to South Queens, but being a quieter beach this would be a good option. But it just moves the problem elsewhere and there are no toilets which is an issue with council.
Does this mean that the council can run trial after trial after trial.
Curious to know the reasons why the dog owners are against South Queens, its way less populated with families, windsurfers, kiters etc.
There is more available beach at high and low tides and probably a longer beach as well.
Queens is a family beach, my gear has been urinated on when left on beach during sailing breaks, I have been growled at when leaving the water and its a pain in the ass for kids to kick a ball or play bit of beach cricket without being interrupted by a dog who is ignoring the calls of its owners.
I also thought dogs did it in plastic bags not public toilets
