You can get a mount from go pro to specifically do this

Well I set the camera up on the boom today, not a bad spot but i'll look at perfecting it.
Note I'm still on my L plates before any critism on my style, will be using the camera to work on this.

Can I suggest you try longer harness lines. You look like your cramped in very close to the boom.

Very good video though. It is interesting watching the sail reacting to the gusts and bumps

as a side note. i was looking into getting a contour hd. it trumps the go pro in nearly all regards from what i read.

was about to put it on the xmas wish list and then realised it's not wide angle enough for windsurifng.

maybe look at getting some mounts to get it away from you so you can capture more area. i am sure though there are places to connect it that get you the angles you;re after but on the boom mabe not the best. bummer really as it seems a great camera.

The contour HD is a fair bit more expensive, that probably the main reason I ended up with the gopro instead.

For barebones package, I think the contour is about $100 dearer.

Thanks for the tip. Those lines are 30inch as recommended by Matt Pritchard at his clinic recently. He did say though to have a forearms length for harness lines, which 30 inch still isnt enough.

I've just purchased a new 'Surf mount' that sits on the front of the board.
I figure once i've captured a bunch of videos from various angles I can clip them together to produce a fairly reasonable video.

I liked the Contour HD because of its ability to sit properly on the side of helmets (not on top), as i'm also capturing some mountain biking footage.

The new Contour HD will have the ability to stream bluetooth video to your iphone for set up ability. mmm wonder how much that will be

Well I got the HD Helmet pack for $330 delivered to my door like 2 years ago. I think the contour HD is closer to $370 before shipping costs and thats without the whole swag of mounting stuff that the HD Helmet came with.

Eitherway they both seem pretty sweet. And the slide switch they have to activate recording seems to be a much better setup then the gopro's push to record.

*edit: had a quick look at gopro website, if I was to get one now, I would get the HD 960. Only records 960p and 720p. But I never bother with the 1080p setting on my gopro anyway, and its only $179 (plus postage blahblah) awesome value.

yeah i'm not interested in 720p. i did some digging. the contourhd is actually wider than the gopro at the max hd resolution. that surprised me. plus you can fit lens kits and filters so you can run it with a polarizer. prob can use a gell with the gopro i'm just not sure.

i could get it to do 180deg hd also by fitting a wide angle adaptor. not sure what the image quality would be but worth a go. panasonic do a .75 with a 46mm screw dia. i reckon that would just fit over the waterproof housing?????

.8 adaptor would give me around 170 deg.

like agraylin my preference is the contour, just bums me out that it's not 170 deg hd.
