I'm planing to move to sydney and I wonder what is the typical size on sail and board you use? I'm mostly into wave sailing, but I even try some freestyle. I sail in any conditions, even if that means non-planing.... just to feed my soul....

I have been windsurfing for 20 years, so I consider myself as a moderate wsurfer. I'm 170 cm and 68 kg.

What size would be the best if I chose;
2 sails, 1 board
3 sails 1 board
3 sails 2 boards

Depending on when you plan to arrive, I'm guessing soon and you'll be here for the summer, i'll give you a run down of what I had (being about the same specs as you).

The previous year had me on an 83ltr JP RWW with a 5.0 and 4.5, I ran with this for a year and got a fare share of sailing in, at 5 times a month, then the wind started to be less frequent for these size sails so I got a 5.6 to fill in for the light days (feb of this year). I then experience an awesome DTL session which got me in the mood to get a 77ltr wave board as my weight dropped from 80 to 68 same as yours. Since aquiring the board in april I have only had about 5 sessions on it and haven't touched the 83 as my 83ltr is hopefully still going to a mate for a small fee. I may be in the market for a 90-100ltr freestyle wave for light days again, but hoping I won't need to do this until say april next year. My 77ltr should hopefully get me through this summer, but if your after gaurenteed floating at your weight regardless of wind then an 85ltr would probably be best for a single board, or a 75 and a 90 for 2 boards...

This year has been an unforgiving year with wind, so there will be a few moaners out there complaining about the lack of it but you have to be optimistic about it.

Dan Berry is your size and I believe uses 5.3 , 4.8 , 4.2 or something. Plus his boards are in the 79 to 69 liter range. He seems to be getting out quite a bit with that weight.

Check windsurf and snow (one of the site sponsors) I believe they still have some of his 'old' '09 and '10 gear in the shop. All jp twin fin boards. Prices are very reasonable considering the condition of the gear. Cheaper than bringing it on a plane.

Btw this winter has been pretty so so as far as wind is concerned. But we have already had a couple of NEer seabreezes which cold mean a great summer.

Don't know about that... I brought a fair bit of gear back from Europe for free - lucky though. Even if I was charged properly would have been less than the cost of a board. Plus if you can afford to be without your gear for a while (which might well be the case in a Swedish winter) you can freight it for cheap.

I was mainly referring to used gear. There is so much used and end of season gear available these days that's usually all in top nick it certainly something worth considering. Re bringing gear on a plane. Having been stung pretty badly before I'd advise anyone to get things in writing from the airline including a note attached to the booking.

Sails are a bit more expensive in austrailia than sweden, I think. 3 brand new neil pryde alpha costs (retail price) 2583 AUD in sweden and would in australia cost 3190 AUD, according to windsurfnsnow.com.au. Used sails are also a bit more expensive.
But on the other hand, it's really convenient to travel without any large, heavy bags..

Is there any other brand than Neil Pryde, Naish and North in sydney area(other shops than windsurfnsnow) if I want new stuff?
