now I am living here I need to find some sick spots for freestyle... so looking for ideas

basically anywhere which is good for speed sailing, dead dead flat, or even better with some decent waves (not chop)!

Tomorrow and Sunday look strong so I plan to head out from where I am based in city, so places within an hr drive ideally.

Any good tips for strong W/NW/SW wind?

Sailed Sans Souci in a W and was okish, only around the sandbar near carters island was flat but then less win

Kurnell definitely best spot today nw/w.

In a West to NW direction you can sail from La Perouse to Kurnell quite easily. I probably would recommend it though. The problem with anything from a Westerly direction is that it's very unpredictable. You can have 40 knts one minute and 0 the next.I have done it a few times but also got stuck out in the middle of the channel a couple of times. On an outgoing tide you get quite a bit of current running out to sea, especially off Bare Island. Also remember there are large container ship coming in and out.The Westpac Sea rescue helicopter is stationed in La Perouse... so I guess if you drift out to sea they won't have far to fly after you... if someone sees you and decides to call them that is.

It was great at la per today, 25-35 knots, not flat of course. Went across to Kernell a couple of times.

La Perouse could be more suitable Wed if more West & WSW as forecast. There should be a post on here for Foreshore Drive
which is flat/good for speed runs with big gear but maybe not great for freestyle as too inconsistent.

NW/WNW are super gusty as mentioned, W a bit more steady (not much though), Botany regarded as best Sydney area for W
due to openness.

Read gusty as unsailable. You can sail there if it has aloooot of south in it. Otherwise if it has north in it go to kurnell, if it has south in it go la perouse.

40cms of water to sail in sounds dangerous. I'm worried all this flat water sailing we are doing in very shallow water is going to end in a terrible accident.

40cm?,,,,sounds bumpy, were not looking for open water

if things go wrong, sure, there is potential for injury, but your more prone to wiping out pushing fast in chop, the flatness of shallow water makes it less likely that your gunna wipe out, you might lift, thats about it, maybe catapult as well

in a nw, yarra bay is flattish, foreshore drive, narra lakes is flat in westerly, ultra patchy though
kurnell gets good wind......but flat? no, not really, if you want proper flat, try budgey, canton, illawarra, tarren pt

40cm is deep, our fins are only 16cm!!

No wind this morning at foreshore, not surprising, should be there now I am sure it would be sick.

Agree gusty = unsailable too, if its too turbulent then its impossible to sail comfortably.

I'm up for some freestyle tips too

Forget foreshore.
If it's w-sw go to laperouse, you get flat areas good (relatively)for freestyle in behind the rocks, starboard tack
If it's w/nw go to kurnell. High tide is better. Flat as a tack behind the groins and super clean wind. Bonus jumping out past the groins, can be steep enough to get backies ect Worth the drive.

Straight N is a little unusual, it will prob be more NNW as it strengthens.

Collaroy - surf side
Rose Bay
La Perouse

in the city, I think I will try La Per :)
