We have 8 weeks to go from Melbourne to Cairns and back down the coast. For us this is the once in a lifetime trip before we grow some grommets.

What we're looking for is great windsurfing spots in NSW. We're looking for flat water which is fairly safe and has caravan parks nearby.

We're also hoping that we can meet up with other windsurfers along the way.

I hope you can help as this will form the basis of our trip.

Hi mate, try this...

Its a little slow to use, but is pretty good...What time of the year are you going?

Edit:
Most of those spots are for wave locations, hopefeully some of the locals on here can tell you about the flat water spots.

Some of the spots around the lower mid north coast then southwards are:
Wallis Lake near Foster/Tuncurry,
Smiths lake a bit further south,
Lake Macquarie near Newcastle,
Virtually all the lakes on the Central Coast,
Narrabeen Lagoon on Sydney's northern beaches,
Botany bay in Sydney and then Lake Illawarra south of Sydney.
All have flat water, pretty safe and caravan parks very close or nearby.
Its a great stretch of coastline!!
Plus around Central Coast to south of Sydney there is always someone around to sail with and help out with local knowledge.
Hope this helps.
let us know when you are coming through to help out if needed.
Cheers.

Here are some spots I know on the lower south coast:-

Merimbula area: Merimbula Lake (subject to tide being in), Wallagoot Lake, main beach at Merimbula (might have a bit of swell, but def. worth checking).

Batemans Bay area: North Broulee, Tomakin river mouth, Corrigan's Beach, Coila Lake (near Tuross).

Jervis Bay area: many places, especially Sanctuary Point (in Sussex Inlet)

Note: There has been quite a bit of rain on the south coast in the last few weeks. Some previously land-locked lakes have opened to the sea again. Not sure whether Coila and / or Wallagoot are now tidal.

Scan this forum for further details of these places.

PS Carry the obvious spares (eg mast base tendon, ropes). Not a lot of windsurfing shops in this region, should you break something.

Good trip, and good winds!

We love sanctuary Point. We were there last year and didn't want to leave.

We'll be going between late Spetember - November this year.

Mid North Coast:

South West Rocks (east of Kempsey - on Pacific Hwy) beautiful sandy bay, can camp along bay at Trial bay Gaol

Yamba river wall in NE, Iluka (opp. side of river) in S(i guess)

Nambucca river - depending on what sandbanks now doing after the floods - watch out for tides (dangerous river mouth), but great at right tides and sandbank form

Further south: Is Hawksnest, Jimmys Beach, and surrounds good flatwater?

Broadwater Caravan Park at Southport, you can rig on your own site and good sailing alongside sandbar straight out from the park
