I'm sure I've read here that there is a wave sailing spot in or around Port Stephens. Can someone give me a pointer please, and in what conditions does it work.. I'll be up there during easter so hope to hit the bay for a sail and also any other spot that's good at the time.

Anything with west in it - Head to Birubi Beach (Morna Point)

Southerly to sou east - Fingal is the go. Waves off the spit are seriously good but be mind full of the tides.
You can launch for the furtherest southerly point of the beach... dog out to the east of the boat ramp and wait from the wind to fill. You can then do a screaming down winder to the spit.
Return trip can normally be done in 3 - 4 legs on a wave board without having to point too high.
Other option is to park at Fingal surf club and hump your gear round to the spit... rig and launch straight in front.
*Only take what you need as the tide may claim anything left on the beach on the spit itself

Other option is to blast across the bay and walk over the sand dune to Hawks Nest (ocean side)
Wind is cross shore.
Boat trip across is the other option.

PS - some bump and jump to be had in the bay itself on the sand bars. No wave sailing though (unless there is a huge swell running and it is wrapping into the Bay)

Thanks for the tips, appreciate it. I've done a lot of sailing from the Hawksnest side but very little from the other side. I'll keep my fingers crossed for some wind.

It was was Birubi beach that I was trying to think off.

Ive seen kiters but not windsurfers at Birubi if thats the beach at the start of the sand dunes.Shallow water for a long way until you get any decent waves.

I've actually torn a sail in the Hawk's nest shoredump. It was X shore (straight off the surf club carpark) - but patience is required to launch. In my experience there will be better spots up or down the coast for a southerly. Hawks nest (bay side) seems to funnel in a SE if you are time limited.

Mostly I've been stopping in the Port S area on a trip north so the southerly will usually be blowing all the way up the coast and I'll look to sail MNC region.
