sorry to hijak your thread, only sailed flat water before and was wondering if Bellambi is an ok place for a wave novice to sail for the first time? and what wind directions does it work in?

Its a good wavesailing spot off peggies (Southern end of bulli beach) when there are waves, particularly a north east or east swell. I sailed Warilla today. Was windy enough but swell non existant.

Swell is going to hit, and NE every day except for a thumping southerly Tuesday morning.
What a week to take off work.
Already had enough beers this arvo to ensure it blows.

Big southerly on the way Ian but I don't think it will get here before dark :( Reliable sources tell me Gerroa was huge, but patchy...by the time I got away from work though it had started to fade. If the southerly comes in time tonight I'll probably hit up Peggies, should be on tomorrow too. Then some NE'rs down at Gerroa for the rest of the week :) Hopefully they stay strong past 4pm!

Looks like you needed some night sailing to actually be out there in green arrows. Mon afternoon the 15-20kt seabreeze never showed up, now we have the forecast "Wind:S 20/25 knots, gradually easing to SE 15/25 knots" that is more like 14 knots at the airport.

Hopefully the Thu/Fri seabreezes deliver!

Corkers - I'm a Woonona local living in Sydney now. I've sailed out of Bellambi harbour a few times. Mostly in search of huge waves that you can't really access by sailing straight off the beach (the shore break is a killer and is very taxing on the gear when the outer breaks are working). Some of the best runs out of the Bellambi harbour I have had were in a Sou'easter with a 7.2 and a isonic 101, nice cruisy rollers, but more slalom stuff. The wind can be a bit iffy in the harbour, nothing a short swim wont fix. Sandon Point in a Nor'easter is very hard to go past. A nice wave around the point and flat on the inside. Try to stay clear of the flags. BAck in the day if the wind held up in the arvo dad, myself and another mate would sail home back down to Woonona beach. Awsome fun giving the old back leg a good work out on the long runs. Peggys at the opposite end of Sandon in a southerly is also pretty tops and offers a bit more of a wave and a longer ride. A Howling southerly with a 5 metre and wave board straight off Woonona beach is happy days. East Corrimal in a nor easter is also pretty good too, there is a bit more of a current running there to so watch out for that.
