Hoping to get on the water this Friday with formula gear (hopefully the NE will cooperate). Would Wangi be potentially windier or are they pretty similar ?How do they compare in terms of launching etc ?

I know Coal Pt gets heaps more than Marmong in a NE so I'd imagine Wangi would be better than Marmong. I used to sail off the Scout club at Wangi on the N side years ago .There were no moored boats then like there are now..grr.
It gets less wind than Coal but is less choppy more regular roller type waves.

Peter - Wangi will always be windier in NE than Marmong as the breeze doesnt have to push up and over Cardiff hill.

Mind you you only need 6 - 8 knots for formula and Marmong is well protected if the wind does get up and you dont like high wind formula

Launching from Marmong is dead easy (well as easy as you can get with a 70cm fin) straight from the grassed area at the clubhouse.

Several spots to launch at Wangi Including the van Park (is a little rocky) and down at Wangi itself (easy)

Hi Peter,

I live and sail straight off Arcadia Vale park (NE is dead onshore). Perfect place to sail formula in a NE. You can pretty much sail up and down the the lake from wangi to belmont in open clean breeze.

Marmong is the place to sail if you are not confident in wind and choppier conditions though. Can get quite strong and choppy off wangi point.

Peter,

Come to Marmong on Saturday, there will be people to help with your gear & sail with, even if you don't race. You could do a race or 2 & you will not be in the way, we have guys who are not so good. The NE is supposed to be good & you don't want too much wind. Marmong is a bit lighter than Wangi but has less weed.

Sunday will apparently be even windier & you can always have another go on the 10m then. But there is a place called Shingle Splitters point at Balcolyn which is closer for you, better launch, excellent NE wind & never has weed. It would be the go on Sunday but Marmong is worth the extra miles on Saturday.
